marble falls's JournalNancy Pelosi: House Will Vote On Resolution To Curb Trump's War Powers This Week

Pelosi said the resolution mirrored a similar effort in the Senate introduced by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.)
It reasserts Congresss long-established oversight responsibilities by mandating that if no further Congressional action is taken, the Administrations military hostilities with regard to Iran cease within 30 days, Pelosi wrote.
Senate Democrats also are demanding justification and transparency on Trumps actions. In a letter late Sunday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Senate Foreign Relations Committee ranking member Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) called on the president to declassify the notification Congress received about last weeks airstrike that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
It is critical that national security matters of such import be shared with the American people in a timely manner, the senators wrote. An entirely classified notification is simply not appropriate in a democratic society, and there appears to be no legitimate justification for classifying this notification.

On Saturday, Trump informed Congress of the drone strike, as was required by the War Powers Act. However, Pelosi railed against the administrations claims for ordering the strike, saying it raised more questions than it answers. Pelosi noted she had serious and urgent questions about the timing, manner and justification of the administrations decision to engage in hostilities against Iran.

Apple came home with no awards and a punch to the gut after Sundays Golden Globe Awards.
Comedian Ricky Gervais, who hosted the event, used Apples nominations for The Morning Show as an opportunity to skewer the company over its business dealings. The series, which premiered last year on the new streaming service Apple TV+ and follows a morning news show that becomes embroiled in workplace scandal, was nominated for best television series drama and received two nominations for best performance by an actress in a television drama series.
Apple rolled into the TV game with a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing, made by a company that runs sweatshops in China, Gervais said as the camera panned to Apple CEO Tim Cook in the audience. So, you say youre woke, but the companies you work for, unbelievable. Apple, Amazon, Disney. If ISIS started a streaming service, youd call your agent, wouldnt you?

If you do win an award tonight, dont use it as a platform to make a political speech, Gervais said. Youre not in a position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real-world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So, if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your god, and f--- off.

Even beloved children's entertainers can get into trouble with their bosses, as Soupy Sales discovered when he made an unscripted comment on the Jan. 1, 1965, episode of his syndicated TV show that led to a suspension.
According to the story, Sales had a few minutes to kill at the end of his late-afternoon show, which had moved from to New York from Los Angeles only a few months before, when an idea popped into his head.
"Hey, kids," he began. "Last night was New Years Eve, and your mom and dad were out having a good time. And they work hard, and after last night, they are probably still sleeping, so what I want you to do is tiptoe into the bedroom, but dont wake them up. You will see your moms pocketbook and your dads pants on the floor, but dont wake em up! Go into your moms pocketbook and your dads pants, and you will see little green pieces of paper with pictures of guys with beards on them. Now, dont wake them up, but get those little green pieces of paper and put them in an envelope, and on the envelope write Soupy Sales, Channel 5.
As a thank-you, Sales added, he'd send the kids a postcard from Puerto Rico.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 1993, the comedian claimed he received only $1 and some Monopoly money. But that same year, he told an audience at the Brokerage Comedy Club in Bellmore, N.Y., that he received $80,000. One woman in attendance shouted, "I want my dollar back!" To which Sales responded, "That's my ride home." He also recalled a 28-year-old woman who sent in a dollar with the message, "I've seen your show, and you should go to Puerto Rico."
You can watch the 1993 comment from the comedy club below.
