Trump lawyer 'not going to speculate' on whether president might fire special counsel

Source: 6ABC Philadelphia

A member of President Trump's personal legal team said he is "not going to speculate" on whether the president may order the firing of the special counsel investigating Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and its possible ties to Trump associates.

But lawyer Jay Sekulow added that he "can't imagine the issue is going to arise."

"I'm not going to speculate on what [Trump] will or will not do" with regard to Robert Mueller, the special counsel leading the FBI's Russia probe, Sekulow told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview on "This Week" Sunday.

"Right now the role of the president is to govern the United States of America. He's going to do that. He's going to leave anything else to the lawyers. But I can't imagine that that issue is going to arise" with Mueller, said Sekulow.

More at link. The country and some of the Congress wouldn't tolerate firing Special
Prosecutor Mueller, but Don has a tin ear to what will fly in politics.

GOP Senator: If Donald Trump Has Tapes Of James Comey, He Should Hand Them Over

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON ― Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, on Sunday demanded that if President Donald Trump continues to suggest that he has recordings of his conversations with fired FBI director James Comey, he should either “voluntarily turn them over” or receive a subpoena.

“This is an issue that the president should have cleared up in his press conference,” Collins said on CNN’s State of the Union. “He should give a straight yes or no to the question of whether or not the tapes exist, and he should voluntarily turn them over not only to the Senate Intelligence Committee, but to the special counsel.”

Trump and White House officials have repeatedly refused to confirm or deny whether the tapes exist.

“I’ll tell you about that in the very near future,” Trump said on Friday during a press conference in the White House Rose Garden.

More at the link.

A very subtle and subliminal if tangential element of this curious "tapes" tweet, is that it could
imply that taping has been going on a long time. Were any of Trump's offices, hotels, residences
wired? Was mentioning "tapes" an attempt to warn people there exists "tapes" of their conversations?
It almost begs the question is there evidence of other interactions? 'Your secrets have all
been recorded, can we expect loyalty?'

Congressional phones have gone silent

The Resistance is flagging. We must renew and fight harder. It's not enough to
dethrone Trump. We must then dethrone Pence, Ryan, McConnell, and reverse their
corporate thievery if America is to be reclaimed for the people.

OMG my Eureka rumbled out

My Eureka had trouble with tight seals on the vacuum bags. A lot of junk
made it past the bag. I double filtered the motor. But the dirt eventually
ground upper engine mount. It made a lot of noise. Now all it does is smoke,
buzz, or play dead. I think it's a goner.

Now this is a simple 1970s vacuum. Hose and nozzles and carpet brush.
You could vacuum anything - sand, auto engine, crevices. So I go to
the store, they hardly make canister vacs anymore, and the ones they
do have handle grips on the hose, beater carpet heads, retractable cords,
wet/dry at the flip of a switch. They're huge and heavy. All I need is a
vacuum with a hose that is small and sucks well - i use it to pull ash from
my flue sometimes.

I need to find a 35 year old used canister vac

High Speed Internet

Every day at 1:08PM or thereabouts, my internet connection fails. It will disconnect
every 5-10 minutes for the next 6 hours.

There is usually some disruption like this around late January, mid-May, June, September, and
late December. I wonder if they are performing maintenance relative to college traffic. It could
also be heat, or changes in temperature, it's HOT here now. Once it hadn't rained in a month
and an abrupt cloudburst disconnected it in 10 seconds.

Verizon of course will offer no explanation. Asian tech support is there to soothe you and send
a new modem and book repairs.

I'm trying to find ways to run my online eBay/eTrade functions from a public WiFi such as the library.
These headaches are not worth the cost.

FBI refuses to disclose documents on Trumps call to Russia to hack Clinton

Source: The Guardian

Senior DoJ officials have declined to release the documents on grounds that such disclosure could “interfere with enforcement proceedings”. In a filing to a federal court in Washington DC, the DoJ states that “because of the existence of an active, ongoing investigation, the FBI anticipates that it will … withhold all records.”

The statement suggests that Trump’s provocative comment last July is being seen by the FBI as relevant to its own ongoing investigation.

___________

The FBI’s refusal to disclose documents relating to Trump’s Russia hacking invitation was made in response to a freedom of information lawsuit lodged by Ryan Shapiro of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard and the journalist Jason Leopold. They jointly submitted a Foia request last August requesting from the FBI “disclosure of any and all records, including investigative records, mentioning or referring to Donald Trump’s statement on 27 July 2016”.

___________

Shapiro said: “The DoJ/FBI’s latest filing makes plain that Donald Trump’s campaign trail call for Russian hacking of Secretary Clinton’s emails is of investigative interest to the FBI.” He added: “In light of Trump’s sudden termination of Director Comey, this fact should significantly reinforce the widespread perception that the president of the United States is unabashedly seeking to cover up his and his associates’ crimes.”

One could tell on July 27 where this was all headed. No surprises yet.
