Congressman threatened with lynching after calling for Trumps impeachment

During a town hall meeting Saturday, Congressman Al Green played recordings of threatening voicemail messages left for him after he demanded the impeachment of President Donald Trump on the House floor earlier this week.

"You'll be hanging from a tree," one caller said.

The calls use graphic racial slurs, some calling Green the n-word. "You ain't going to impeach nobody. Try it and we will lynch all of you," the caller said.

On Wednesday, the Houston Democrat became the first member of Congress to call for Trump's impeachment from the House floor. The congressman said the firing of FBI Director James Comey was one of the reasons. Listen to the calls U.S. Rep. Al Green received.

"It does not deter us," Green said of the threats. "We are not going to be intimidated. We are not going to allow this to cause us to deviate from what we believe to be the right thing to do and that is to proceed with the impeachment of President Trump."

Sheriff David Clarke plagiarized portions of his master's thesis on homeland security

(CNN)Controversial Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who this week announced he will be joining Donald Trump's administration as assistant secretary in the Department of Homeland Security, plagiarized sections of his 2013 master's thesis on US security, a CNN KFile review has found.

Clarke, a visible surrogate for Trump during the campaign known for his incendiary rhetoric, earned a master's degree in security studies at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. In his thesis, "Making U.S. security and privacy rights compatible," Clarke failed to properly attribute his sources at least 47 times.

In all instances reviewed by CNN's KFile, Clarke lifts language from sources and credits them with a footnote, but does not indicate with quotation marks that he is taking the words verbatim.

If anyone is thinking about me this holiday season.......

DALLAS (AP) — The guitar Jimi Hendrix played at the Monterey Pop festival in 1967 is expected to sell for $750,000 when it goes up for auction next month.

It will be offered by Dallas-based Heritage Auctions on June 17 in Beverly Hills, California. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the “Summer of Love.” The Monterey festival that summer also featured Janis Joplin, The Who and the Grateful Dead.

Heritage Auctions says the Fender Stratocaster guitar is being offered by a private collector from the United Kingdom.

Garry Shrum, Heritage Auctions’ director of music memorabilia, says the guitar is among the few that “have changed music history.”

The auction house says as Hendrix neared the end of his Monterey set, he swapped the guitar for another that he famously set on fire.

White House looking at ethics rule to weaken special investigation: sources

The Trump administration is exploring whether it can use an obscure ethics rule to undermine the special counsel investigation into ties between President Donald Trump's campaign team and Russia, two people familiar with White House thinking said on Friday.

Trump has said that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's hiring of former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to lead the investigation "hurts our country terribly."

Within hours of Mueller's appointment on Wednesday, the White House began reviewing the Code of Federal Regulations, which restricts newly hired government lawyers from investigating their prior law firm’s clients for one year after their hiring, the sources said.

An executive order signed by Trump in January extended that period to two years.

Mueller's former law firm, WilmerHale, represents Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, who met with a Russian bank executive in December, and the president's former campaign manager Paul Manafort, who is a subject of a federal investigation.

Legal experts said the ethics rule can be waived by the Justice Department, which appointed Mueller. He did not represent Kushner or Manafort directly at his former law firm.

If the department did not grant a waiver, Mueller would be barred from investigating Kushner or Manafort, and this could greatly diminish the scope of the probe, experts said.

Kellyanne Conway cancels Fox appearance after special prosecutor announcement

Kellyanne Conway cancelled an appearance on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Wednesday night after it was announced that a special prosecutor would be appointed to head up the investigation into President Trump’s ties to Russia.

Tucker Carlson noted Conway’s cancellation during Wednesday’s show, saying the show booked Conway at the request of the White House.

“Kellyanne Conway was going to be sitting in that seat,” Carlson said. “We had booked her at their request. We don’t often have people from the administration on, but they said ‘we want to send over Kellyanne Conway’ - great.”

“Then, not long before air,” Carlson continued, “they canceled it, for reasons that were not exactly clear.
