It's depressing. And the same people who adore Trump are threatening the life

of my Secretary of State here in AZ, and threatening the lives of her family. She ran a near perfect election here. She worked hard, shrugged off constant criticism, and did a great job. And that is her reward: Death threats.

Only consolation: I don't think it's really "half" the country. It's true that 47% of people who voted in this election voted for Trump, but a lot of people still don't vote, and some of them vote for Trump not because they are in the cult, but for other reasons.

I think it was Steve Schmidt or one of the other guests on Deadline White House today who put the number at around 30%. I know that's not any comfort, but it's better than 50%. It's still enough to destroy the country and a new presidency.

Same, exactly.

I even had a tentative schedule to try to regain my ability to sleep, and to do some creative stuff, maybe some writing (which I haven't done in 4 years).

Now, I don't really see an end in sight, not even Inauguration day.

I did understand Trump would behave badly after the election, but I didn't really think about how much it would impact Joe and Kamala. That's the most painful thing to me, is watching the transition destroyed, and imagining what the consequences will be. I simply didn't understand that the transition process itself could be uprooted.

Thom Hartmann floated this possibility a couple of months back.

I always listen to what Thom Hartmann has to say, but I couldn't gauge how serious he was about this, since his theory depended on the cooperation of Fed Chair Powell, so for the most part I dismissed it. (Jay Powell is not going to help Trump crash the stock market.)

But there are other ways he could accomplish this.

I'm not putting a single thing past Trump. He will hurt anybody at this point, even his rich friends. He's beyond caring.

I think it was Joy Reid who last night said "The mask is off..."

This was indisputably pure racism. Right in America's face.

I'm not really sure if, in my lifetime, I've ever seen anything so bold by public officials. This seems like something from the 1950s or 60s. Stuff I've only read about.

They weren't trying to "sneak" something through. It was so blatant. It felt to me like what it might have been like to watch cops block the way of little black kids trying to go to school. It was repulsive.

When Trump does something on an international scale that, at first blush,

doesn't seem to benefit him directly or personally, I start to wonder if he is repaying a favor to a foreign leader, or expecting a favor in return (i.e., the Syrian troop pullout, moving the embassy to Jerusalem).
