momta's JournalQuestion about the rules
I heard one commentator say that until a Speaker is elected the House runs on "General Parliamentary Rules" which are vague and ill-defined, but it basically means that you need a majority to pass anything.
Could the Dems begin proposing bills like "Forgive student loans" or "Tax the uber-wealthy", bills that are simple and short, and force the R's to vote for or against? Even if none of them passed, it would make for good politics in the next election.
Not sure if that's possible, but it would be way more constructive than the shit-show that's happening now.
So, Ukraine attacked Poland, huh?
Well, clearly NATO needs to invade Ukraine, occupy it, and expel any "other" aggressor states.
(Wish I could take credit for this one, but my hubby came up with it.)
I didn't even know this would be on our ballot

1. What does the Colorado initiative do?
Proposition 122 is one of 11 statewide ballot measures that Colorado voters will decide in the Nov. 8 general election. The measure would allow adults to grow, possess, and use mushrooms containing the chemicals psilocybin and psilocin, and decriminalize three plant-based psychedelics: mescaline (though it specifically excludes the peyote cactus), ibogaine (from the root bark of the iboga tree), and dimethyltryptamine (a compound in ayahuasca brew). It also would require the state to create regulations for facilities where adults 21 and older can buy and take the psychedelics under supervision. Selling the drugs outside of those facilities would remain illegal.
The measure sets a timeline for the regulatory process and facilities to be operational by late 2024 for psilocybin, and the state could expand the list of psychedelic substances to include mescaline, ibogaine, and dimethyltryptamine in those facilities starting in 2026. If voters approve the initiative, people who use those psychedelics would be protected from professional discipline or losing public benefits, and criminal records of past convictions for offenses made legal under the measure could be sealed.

Oppressing women has NEVER been a good idea
Women in Iran are bravely marching and protesting for freedom from religious tyranny. Women in the U.S. are marching and protesting for...well, the same thing. It's good to see, but not exactly surprising. We find ourselves in pretty serious fuck-around-and-find-out times, and the religious zealots are finding out what happens when you mess with women. People who know their history already know...

If you only watch part of this video, let it be the last 5-10 minutes. Yeganeh Rezaian gives some excellent actionable advice on how to help the protesters in Iran.
Remember when Pat Robertson blamed Katrina on "the gays"?
I wonder what he'll say now that there is a Cat5 headed in the general direction of Mar A Lago?
Wow. This was written by a black man!
So, this guy, John Gibbs, won the GOP primary in his Michigan district. He's supported by TFG. Someone dug up a website for a group he formed when he was at Stanford in the early 2000's, and this is an excerpt from it.
He's disavowing it now (of course ), but JFC!

And once again black women lead the way!
I am in absolute awe of Letitia James and Fani Willis.
Scam alert for job-seekers.
Our NB has an account with Indeed.com, and their resume is publicly visible. Last night they got "interviewed" via text, and then this morning was sent a job "offer" contract.
There were enough red flags that they asked us for help, and sure enough, looking over the contract which was full of grammar, punctuation and spelling errors it was clear that this was a scam, apparently trying to steal their identity.
Some things to watch out for with scammers:
1. The url for the company was SIMILAR but not identical to a legitimate nationwide company. When we called the real company, they said this isn't the first time. They've already shut down one site, but are now alerted to another.
2. When NB asked for an ID from the interviewer, he sent one that was expired (and certainly not his own ).
3. Wanting to communicate over Telegram is a red flag. It doesn't necessarily mean it's a scam, but it should set off alarm bells.
4. They asked for CREDIT info in the initial "interview". No numbers, just names of banks. No real potential employer will do this.
5. If it's too good to be true, it's probably not true. They were offering a crazy high salary for someone with no experience.
I know a lot of this is common knowledge, but for people looking for a job, we can often let our guard down.
Also, its okay to be embarrassed if you get scammed, but please alert the authorities. The real company whose identity was being used was very grateful to hear from us, and sent us info on how to contact the FBI.
Live and learn and move on. These guys come up with new tricks all the time, just to get your info or your money or whatever they can get away with. They are SCUM and do not deserve any of your hard-won self-esteem. Ive fallen for shit like this before. Its no fun, but generally its not worth obsessing over.
Be safe out there.
Yet another reason not to read CNN
They can't spell! This is a bullet point in their Ukraine story from this morning:
I do try to be forgiving where grammar is concerned, but JFC, CNN!
