Crookstube Capitalizing on the public's fascination with crime videos, generating hundreds of leads

There's a new crime-fighter in town, and it's gunning for crooks armed with grainy footage.

Capitalizing on the public's fascination with crime videos, a Coral Springs man's website is giving constant face time to surveillance footage from around the country —and generating hundreds of leads on unsolved crimes.

America's most wanted, meet Crookstube.

With nearly 12,000 members and more than 60 law enforcement agencies signed on, Crookstube —first launched in November 2010 —appears to be going gangbusters, judging by the number of views its videos are getting.

Tunisia Islamist Party Chooses New Prime Minister

Source: AP

Tunisia's ruling Islamist party named an interior minister seen as a conservative loyalist to form a new government Friday, in a signal the party is unlikely to back down to opposition demands to try to smooth over the country's political crisis.

Ali Larayedh, accused of failing to stem violence by ultraconservative Muslims when he was in charge of Tunisia's security as interior minister, said he would start immediate consultations on forming a new government, according to the state news agency TAP.

He said after his first Cabinet meeting that the new government should represent different layers of society, including the secular media and arts worlds and preachers, TAP reported. He has 15 days to present a new government.

The killing of an opposition leader last month plunged Tunisia into its deepest political crisis since it started the Arab Spring uprisings two years ago. It led to violent protests against the Islamist-led government and demands for a crackdown on extremist violence.

Japanese prime minister says nation needs to expand defense

Source: USA Today

WASHINGTON -- Japan needs to expand its defense budget because of increasing threats in the northeast Asia, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told reporters shortly after meeting with President Obama Friday evening.

"In view of the increasingly severe security environment, Japan is determined to fulfill our responsibilities with the United States," Abe said. Abe met with Obama to talk about several issues and to shore up a security partnership between the two countries.

He said he explained to Obama Japan's need to exercise its right to self defense and to increase its defense budget.

Japan and South Korea, both U.S. allies, have been rattled in recent months by a North Korean testing of long range missiles and a nuclear bomb, weapons North Korea has said are designed to deter the United States.

Medicaid Expansion to Boost Access to Mental Health Services

State funding and investment for mental health services have significantly decreased in recent years, even as demand for these services has increased. But there may be a glimmer of hope for advocates of expanded access to mental health coverage.

In participating states, the upcoming Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act will increase both the number of eligible enrollees and the list of treatments and services covered, including mental health coverage.

Both the Medicaid expansion and the establishment of health insurance exchanges are scheduled to roll out Jan. 1, 2014. The federal government will pick up all the costs for newly eligible Medicaid patients under the expansion for the first three years, and then will slowly decrease the federal contribution to 90 percent.

By expanding Medicaid and creating the health insurance exchanges, the federal government hopes that more uninsured Americans will become insured, and as a result, fewer people will need to rely on costly emergency room treatment for their basic health care needs.

Tell President Obama: Don't appoint fracking proponent Dr. Ernest Moniz to lead Department of Energy

Sign the petition

"As a proponent of fracking, Dr. Ernest Moniz is the wrong choice for to lead the Department of Energy. Appoint an energy secretary who will move us away from toxic, climate-heating fossil fuels and toward sustainable energy."

President Obama keeps saying we need to confront climate change.

So why is he going to appoint a major proponent of fracking to lead the Department of Energy?

US 89 Collapses South of Page, Arizona

Source: The Inquisitr

Phoenix, Arizona – US 89 collapsed south of Page, Arizona on Wednesday leaving the road in a condition often seen in post-apocalyptic survival games and movies.

The collapse occurred approximately two and a half miles north of mile 526, north of the intersection with U.S. 89A, approximately 25 miles south of Page.

At this point in time, it is being ruled by the Arizona Department of Transportation that what caused the road to collapse may have been an undetermined ‘geological event,’ according to KPHO.

Although the Arizona Department of Public Safety reported several vehicular collisions due to the event, no injuries were reported at this time.

Fox News co-host under fire for rape remark

Source: Yahoo News

A Fox News co-host is facing a backlash for questioning the prevalence of rape on college campuses.

“When was the last time you heard about a rape on campus?” Bob Beckel , a liberal co-host of Fox News' "The Five," asked his four colleagues on Tuesday's show.

“What are you talking about?" co-host Eric Bolling responded. "It’s rampant."

“In particular, date rape on campus,” co-host Dana Perino added.
