Wolf vetoes stopgap budget.

As he promised, Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf has vetoed a stopgap budget the Republican-controlled Legislature completed Monday and sent to his desk Tuesday.

Wolf's reasons for killing the short-term budget, which would have provided $11.2 billion in state tax dollars and freed up billions more in federal tax money, were the same as when he rejected a full 2015-16 budget the Legislature sent him on June 30. Like the full budget, Wolf said, the stopgap did not include a severance tax on natural gas drillers to provide a continuous stream of extra money for schools, it did not close the state's deficit with other new tax revenue, and it did not reduce local property taxes by increasing the state's income and sales taxes.

"Just like their sham budget in June, this stopgap budget makes it clear that Republican leaders not only want to do nothing to move the commonwealth forward, but they are intent on taking us backward," Wolf said in a statement.

I probably forgot a few. I used to tag along with my husband on business trips sometimes. Haven't flown anywhere since it became such a hassle. I used to like the old Pittsburgh airport. It was easy to get in and out of.

I think so, but it was never treated.

I rode my sled head-first into a brick wall when I was around 8 or 9. I woke up in the snow, walked home (about a block), went to sleep on the couch and never saw a doctor. I don't know how long I was out.

I remember how the impact felt, I remember feeling sick in the stomach and I remember that it knocked me out. I probably had one heck of a headache, but I don't remember that. I always had a lot of headaches. Concussion care has come a long way, baby!

I was completely transfixed.

He had me in tears. I've been pretty weepy all week, watching him on TV. How I wish I could have been there. The experience must have been overwhelming for those in the audience.

It was a beautiful message, but his discarded speech was quite good, too:

I think of all those families which lack access to basic health services. Families which, when faced with medical problems, especially those of their younger or older members, are dependent on a system which fails to meet their needs, is insensitive to their pain, and forces them to make great sacrifices to receive adequate treatment.

Kane's law license is suspended by state Supreme Court:

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The state’s highest court on Monday ordered the suspension of the law license of Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane, a step that could set up a Senate vote to remove her as she faces criminal charges.

The unanimous order by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court could also prompt a legal challenge from Ms. Kane, a first-term Democrat and the first woman to be Pennsylvania’s top prosecutor. In the meantime, the order has created the complication of leaving the state’s top law enforcement official, who is in charge of a 750-employee office and a $93 million budget, without the ability to act as a lawyer, at least temporarily.

In the order, the court said its action should not be construed as removing Ms. Kane from office. Her office said it was reviewing the decision and offered no immediate comment. Her personal lawyers had no immediate comment.
