March against Monsanto taking place everywhere May 25! (Updated)

Fight Against GMOS ?@FightAgainstGMO

March against Monsanto taking place everywhere May 25 #GMO
http://www.naturalnews.com/040212_March_against_Monsanto_Occupy_GMO.html

With President Obama's recent signing of the Monsanto Protection Act, food safety advocates are up in arms. As GMOs fill grocery store shelves at an alarming rate, more people are growing aware of the health risks associated with genetically altered organisms. People are growing tired of this disease-promoting, genetically manipulated food. They are sick of controlling multinational corporations like Monsanto dictating their food supply. That's why on May 25th 2013, rallies across the world are organizing, from Australia to Germany, from New York to California. A March against Monsanto is expected to take place.

How important is real, organic food to you? Do you want to support small farmers and their independence? Do you want to protect the future of the seed and health of your family?

Research - look for ways to speak up and make a difference. Join a march against Monsanto rally on May 25th in your city: http://occupy-monsanto.com/tag/march/

Sequester Puts Some Needing Housing Aid 'Back To Square One'

National Homeless ?@Ntl_Homeless

Impact of the #sequester is being felt across the country as some lose housing vouchers & face #homelessness. Listen:

http://www.npr.org/2013/04/30/180100067/sequester-puts-some-needing-housing-aid-back-to-square-one?sc=tw&cc=share

Housing authorities across the country have all but stopped issuing rent vouchers as they try to deal with the cuts known as sequestration. Many newly issued vouchers have been rescinded, leaving some people homeless or doubled up with family and friends.

And the cuts come at a time when there's a severe shortage of affordable housing across the country.

'Homeless Again'

Melissa Rothkugel, 28, had waited seven years for a housing voucher to help cover her rent in Connecticut. Last year, she lost her job, became homeless and got pregnant. So you can imagine how happy she was in February when she got a letter telling her she had finally been approved for aid.

"I actually broke down and cried," she recalls. "Because, I mean, when they issued me the voucher, I thought everything was going to start getting better and looking up."

Anything changed? | In 2002: Of the 100 largest economies in the world, 51 are corporations

Occupy Wall Street ?@OccupyWallSt 3h

Anything changed? | In 2002: Of the 100 largest economies in the world, 51 are corporations, only 49 are countries. http://bit.ly/10hjv4B

http://www.globalissues.org/article/234/the-rise-of-corporations

Corporations, as we tend to think of them, have been around for a few centuries, the earliest of which were chartered around the sixteenth century in places like England, Holland etc. Technically speaking, a corporation is what Robbins describes as a “social invention of the state” (Robbins: p.98). That is, a state grants a corporate charter, permitting private financial resources being used for public purposes. As Arrighi points out, this initial creation of private finance and merchants, etc was to aid in the expansion of a state to which it belonged, and as Arrighi and Smith detail, served to expand colonial and imperial interests to start with, as well as help in war efforts between empires.

The advantage of having a corporation over being an individual investing in trade voyages etc, was that an individual’s debts could be inherited by descendants (and hence, one could be jailed for debts of other family members, for example). A corporate charter however, was limited in its risks, to just the amount that was invested. A right not accorded to individuals. (Robbins: p.98)

Corporations had therefore the potential, from the onset, to become very powerful. Even Abraham Lincoln recognized this:

I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. ... corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.

— U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864 (letter to Col. William F. Elkins) Ref: “The Lincoln Encyclopedia”, Archer H. Shaw (Macmillan, 1950, NY)

Are all telephone calls recorded and accessible to the US government?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/may/04/telephone-calls-recorded-fbi-boston

"BURNETT: Tim, is there any way, obviously, there is a voice mail they can try to get the phone companies to give that up at this point. It's not a voice mail. It's just a conversation. There's no way they actually can find out what happened, right, unless she tells them?

CLEMENTE: "No, there is a way. We certainly have ways in national security investigations to find out exactly what was said in that conversation. It's not necessarily something that the FBI is going to want to present in court, but it may help lead the investigation and/or lead to questioning of her. We certainly can find that out.

BURNETT: "So they can actually get that? People are saying, look, that is incredible.

CLEMENTE: "No, welcome to America. All of that stuff is being captured as we speak whether we know it or like it or not."

"All of that stuff" - meaning every telephone conversation Americans have with one another on US soil, with or without a search warrant - "is being captured as we speak".

On Thursday night, Clemente again appeared on CNN, this time with host Carol Costello, and she asked him about those remarks. He reiterated what he said the night before but added expressly that "all digital communications in the past" are recorded and stored:

Billions of children taking to the streets; demanding their peaceful future; demanding an end of their father's prideful world holocausts.

Can the gravity of collective positive thought attract a collective positive future?

When the cry for battle gathers armies to feed the poor; shelter the homeless; heal the sick; inform the ignorant. A war on poverty...

Fear is the main weapon against us.

It is used to destablize, to create division and thus break solidarity. THEY fear us unifying in any form, because we are the true strength. Whether we are unified in struggle against them or simply in living the happy, mutually supportive lives we know are our birthright, in doing so We Win. There will be wars and rumors of wars, events of chaos and oppression, all designed to distract us from building together a world which obsoletes the controllers. They can't stand us happy. Happy people are very difficult to control, to herd. Miserable, insecure (fearful) people are easy and are their goal. Occupy Fear. Choose what makes you happy and work at building it. Together. Call your friends and neighbors together in mutual aid of happiness projects (libraries, gardens, theatre, music, home care, teaching, feeding others). These things quickly obsolete the forces of destruction and control. They will attack and seek to control them. Resist. Come to recognize these mechanisms against us and how they appear. Continue smiling and laugh at them, completely and utterly out-of-place and over-the-top, completely "not getting it". At this point, they become clearly ridiculous and we can all laugh them into history. Having tasted happiness and mutual aid, we will demand it as a way of living, as the right way to live.

There are those here who are already pioneering such drive and systems; please lend them your full support. We are unstoppable, another world is possible! Persevere! Build! We Will Win!

Tiny Device Will Detect Domestic Drones

Tiny Device Will Detect Domestic Drones
http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/05/01/tiny-device-will-detect-domestic-drones

Worried about drones spying on you? Soon, a device might be able to send you text and email alerts that let you know when a drone is nearby.

A Washington, D.C.-based engineer is working on the "Drone Shield," a small, Wi-Fi-connected device that uses a microphone to detect a drone's "acoustic signatures" (sound frequency and spectrum) when it's within range.

The company's founder, John Franklin, who has been working in aerospace engineering for seven years, says he hopes to start selling the device sometime this year. He is using the Kickstarter-like Indiegogo to finance the project.

The device will cost $69 and will be about the size of a USB thumb drive. It will use Raspberry Pi – a tiny, $25 computer – and commercially available microphones to detect drones. He says he imagines that people will attach the Drone Shield to their fences or roofs to protect their home from surveillance.
