February 3, 2005 February 3, 2018.

Today marks my 13th year here on DU. When I stumbled across this site (actually in 2004), I had no idea what I’d found. I was very new to the internet, computers and politics on this large a scale. It seemed like a wonderland. I’d never seen posts or topics or different forums before! I had no idea how things worked. Everything was a revelation.

And never in my wildest dreams had I thought that I would be a member this long. And how grateful I am that DU exists. I’ve had my eyes opened to the political reality in both our country and abroad as well. I’ve made many friends. Some have passed on, some are still here and they all matter. I’ve learned so much about human nature, both good and bad. Everything I’ve encountered here has made me who I am today. Of course, older, but also a bit smarter and maybe even wiser. More sophisticated for sure. I’ve become a better photographer, thanks to my good friends in the Photo Group.

I’m 74 now, and I have no idea how long my life will go on, but I will say this: As long as I can type, I will be a member.

DU is home.

Thank you, all of you, for making my experience so amazing.

Today's Lunar Eclipse!

To honor Dr. Martin Luther King, jr:

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

The Final Straw

While I was reading the paper today, of course I read the article about tRump's most recent outburst........

I felt a surge of anger, a moment of snap!

I have been opposed from the beginning to his so-called presidency. I've been appalled at his "ideas," his so-called "thinking," and all the rest. I have been angered at all of this.

But today, something went snap.

He has to go. NOW. I don't know how we can do this, but somehow, NOW.

Everything he has done has damaged us, our institutions, our way of life, our standing in the world, all of the good that has come from us.

Even Pence wouldn't have been this evil.

Now, it's personal.

Caught this photo today...

The sun was pouring into a window in our home, with this result:

My post has a link to an extremely scary and well-written article about tRump.

It's from the New York Review of Books, and it's called Damage Bigly. The author is James Mann.

It is a bit long but very worthwhile. Here are some excerpts:

The tax legislation that was just rammed through Congress makes it quite clear that Donald Trump’s first year in the White House has been much more damaging to the nation than that of any other president in modern times. Before this bill, it might have been possible, though wrong, to argue that as president, Trump had brought to his office more sound and fury than action. The notion took hold for much of 2017 that his failures in Congress, along with a series of court rulings, had limited his impact; the failure to repeal Obamacare and the courts’ blocking of the early versions of his travel ban were cited as examples of the supposedly constrained Trump presidency.

No more. The sweeping tax bill gives a huge tax cut to corporations and to wealthy individuals, and will add roughly $1 trillion over the next ten years to the federal deficit. It will widen further the already enormous gulf between the very wealthy and the rest of America. And it sets the stage for an attempt by Republicans in Congress in 2018 to shrink the federal deficit by cutting benefits to a large number of Americans through reductions in Social Security, Medicare, and other social programs.

All of it at the link: http://www.nybooks.com/articles/2018/01/18/donald-trump-damage-bigly/

I encourage all of you to read it.

Here's tonight's super moon...

There's a light layer of clouds which reduces the moonlight. Earlier, the clouds had been quite a lot thicker and I'd thought I wouldn't be able to get anything.

I just stepped outside a few minutes ago, and was surprised by what I saw.

Hope you enjoy!
