Charles Blow: Our future "belongs to an America that looks absolutely nothing like Trump's America"

Count Me Among the Mob
If it means people who stand in opposition to Trump’s degradation of the country.

By Charles M. Blow

............

.....count me among the mob, if that means people who stand in opposition to Trump’s degradation of the country in all ways. If the mob stands up for women and stands up to the National Rifle Association, I want in. If the mob hates corruption and loves the increasing diversity of this country, then it is for me. If the mob finds it abhorrent that during the same week that it became clear that a Washington Post columnist had been killed in a Saudi Arabian consulate, Trump praised an American politician who assaulted a journalist, then yes, yes, yes to the mob.

........

This election and indeed all that follow it must no longer be about reactions, but about realignment.

We must conceive of the country we want and drive relentlessly toward it, not because we are thunderstruck by the sheer immorality that has risen to the pinnacle of power, but because we know that power is in fact a possession of the people in a democracy and we can both harness it and assert it.

Trump is going to be Trump. Stop playing by his rules. Don’t allow him to dictate the terms of the debate. Let him call you whatever he likes. If he says you are part of a mob, so be it.

Stay focused on the future. It belongs to an America that looks absolutely nothing like Trump’s America. Vote!

Rubio: Khashoggi killing was 'disrespectful to Trump'

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) suggested Monday that the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi was "disrespectful" to President Trump and other politicians who offered support for the relationship between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia.

"The #KhashoggiMurder was immoral," Rubio wrote on Twitter. "But it was also disrepectful (sic) to Trump & those of us who have supported the strategic alliance with the Saudi’s.

"Not only did they kill this man, they have left [Trump] & their congressional allies a terrible predicament & given Iran a free gift," he continued.

Surveillance footage shows Saudi operative in Khashoggi's clothes after he was killed

Istanbul (CNN)One member of the 15-man team suspected in the death of Jamal Khashoggi dressed up in his clothes and was captured on surveillance cameras around Istanbul on the day the journalist was killed, a senior Turkish official has told CNN.

CNN has obtained exclusive law enforcement surveillance footage, part of the Turkish government's investigation, that appears to show the man leaving the consulate by the back door, wearing Khashoggi's clothes, a fake beard, and glasses.

The same man was seen in Khashoggi's clothing, according to the Turkish case, at the city's world-famous Blue Mosque just hours after the journalist was last seen alive entering the consulate on October 2.

The man in the video, identified by the official as Mustafa al-Madani, was allegedly part of what investigators have said was a hit squad, sent to kill the journalist at the Saudi consulate during a scheduled appointment to get papers for his upcoming wedding.
