He’s a Chinese billionaire and a member of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago. Is he also a communist spy?

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/article232973237.html#storylink=cpy

A high-profile Chinese fugitive — who belongs to President Donald Trump’s exclusive South Florida club, Mar-a-Lago, and has railed against China’s communist government — is accused of being a spy for that very regime, according to new documents filed in a federal court case in New York.

Chinese billionaire Guo Wengui, who also goes by Miles Kwok, fled to the United States four years ago after learning an associate had been arrested on corruption charges. He is now one of China’s most-wanted, accused of myriad crimes by the Chinese government, including paying bribes and sexual assault. He maintains his innocence, saying the charges are politically motivated.

Guo, who made his money in real estate, has long promoted himself as a dissident being hunted by the Chinese government for his opposition to the ruling Chinese Communist Party. He is currently seeking political asylum in the United States, where he reportedly avoided deportation by the Trump administration after the president learned Guo was a member of Mar-a-Lago.

Now, filings in a civil case, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, suggest Guo may not be the dissident he claims. “Instead, Guo Wengui was, and is, a dissident-hunter, propagandist, and agent in the service of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Communist Party,” according to federal court papers filed Friday.

ICE/CBP have detained a US citizen for three weeks. Have lied about his birthplace

https://www.dallasnews.com/news/immigration/2019/07/22/dallas-born-citizen-picked-border-patrol-detained-three-weeks

Galan said she met with CBP officers last week and presented them with Galicia’s birth certificate and some other documents but was unsuccessful in getting him released. She plans on presenting the same documents to ICE officers later this week.

“I presented then with his original birth certificate and other documents and they ignored them. So now I’ve faxed over all the documents to the ICE agent handling the case,” Galan said. “He’s going on a full month of being wrongfully detained. He’s a U.S. citizen and he needs to be released now.”

The Dallas Morning News reviewed a copy of the birth certificate and it lists Galicia as having been born at Parkland Memorial Hospital on December 24, 2000. Other documents include a congratulatory certificate his mother was given by hospital staff when he was born, a high school ID, and a health insurance card.

The ICE detainee locator system shows Francisco is being held at the South Texas Detention Facility in Pearsall and lists him as being born in Mexico.

THE GUY YOU FIRE

(Found elsewhere)

THE GUY YOU FIRE
There’s a guy at the office where you work. He’s the same guy who’s been in every office where you’ve worked. You’ll know the one I mean.

He’s that guy who’s the loudest in every meeting, and is full of opinions about the best way to do things. He’s constantly promoting his own ideas and putting down the suggestions of others. He’s critical of those in charge, and loves to go on about how he’d do so much better than they ever will.

Yet you’ve noticed, over the time he’s been around, that he’s never actually accomplished anything of substance. No idea of his ever had any meaningful detail or plan attached; and, when given something to actually do, this guy bungled it, and someone else had to step in.

He cannot execute. Despite his resume, despite his claims, he has no real skill or experience.

You don’t promote that guy.

He’s the guy you fire.

Okay, so he bungles things. Don’t we all, from time to time? Who among us hasn’t overlooked an important detail, missed an essential cue, lost track of the schedule? It happens to the best, right?

When that happens, we offer a mea culpa, to signal to those around us that we own our mistake, and to reassure them that it won’t happen again.

But not this guy. In all the time he’s worked here, he’s never admitted a mistake. He’s never taken responsibility for a single failure – and there have been many.

You don’t put that guy in charge of anything.

He’s the guy you fire.

Instead of accountability, he offers an endless trove of excuses. He has one for every occasion. There are a million reasons why his efforts came to nothing, but they serve only as a bulwark to deflect attention from his own incompetence.

His pals chime in and bolster his excuses. But that, of course, only makes things worse: you don’t make excuses for a guy like that.

He’s the guy you fire.

The most heinous of his excuses for his failures is the blaming of others – passing off responsibility for his incompetence on those who are far more capable than he. In doing so, he takes his initial mistakes and multiplies them, not only failing his own agenda but weakening those of others, by diverting them into squandering time defending themselves from unjustified insinuations.

His pals, seeing how well this works, begin to emulate him. But you don’t aspire to be like that guy.

He’s the guy you fire.

And he has another trick – you've seen him do it over and over. Not only does he excel at reassigning credit for his own poor performance to others – he's equally adept, if not more, at taking credit for their bona fide accomplishments. He can convince an uncomfortable percentage of those around him not only that he isn’t responsible for what has gone wrong, but that he alone is responsible for all that goes right.

And that uncomfortable percentage, despite all evidence, buys into it. Even if some part of them realizes it’s smoke and mirrors, they want that magic that he obviously possesses. So they stick close to him, and openly admire him.

But he’s not a guy you want to be anywhere near. You don’t watch that guy’s sleight-of-hand and then decide to admire him.

He’s the guy you fire.

The irresponsibility and excuses, blaming others and taking false credit should be enough to get any employee shown the door, and if he’s getting away with all of that, you’d think he’d rest on his laurels and not get any worse. But he does.

He doesn’t leave it at that. He goes the extra mile, not just heaping blame for his own weaknesses on others, but magnifying the damage by openly putting them down. He serves up ridicule and scorn, even for those in charge, eroding not only institutional confidence in their abilities, but in their character. He has disdain for everyone and praise for no one.

You don’t give that guy praise in turn; it only emboldens him.

He’s the guy you fire.

There’s a guy at the office where you work. You’ve known him for years, watched him, been wary of him. He’s all of the above, lacking in every single feature of cooperative success: he has no competence, no scruples, no empathy, no character, no moral compass, no self-restraint.

Worst of all: his successes in his shady, self-promoting games have empowered him as a master manipulator, shaping events all around him, whether his touch is apparent or not. His success in drawing attention to himself, and winning the fawning loyalty of those who can’t or won’t examine his performance too deeply, have left him with a level of control over the company’s future that is not only unwarranted but deeply disturbing: his need to control has resulted in a perverse variation of the Peter Principle, and he is hovering too close to the steering wheel. If he gets his hands on it, nothing but chaos will result.

But he’s not a guy who should ever be in charge of anything; a man like him shouldn’t be entrusted running a McDonald’s, let alone the company that provides your livelihood. You’d never put your life, or the lives of your family, in his hands. No company would ever put such a man in charge.

He’s the guy you fire

READ: Alleged Mob Boss Killer Is QAnon Believer Who Thought Trump Backed Him
https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/anthony-comello-frank-cali-qanon-conspiracy-mob-killer-lawyer-says

In a court filing first reported by The New York Times and provided in full to TPM by the defendant’s lawyer, Anthony Comello is portrayed as a devout Trump fan whose participation in the QAnon conspiracy theory “evolved into a delusional obsession” and “permeated every aspect of the defendant’s conduct and dictated his actions.”

Noting his intent to present evidence of mental disease or defect in his client, attorney Robert C. Gottlieb wrote that Comello didn’t understand that killing Cali was wrong — and also that he only intended to place Cali under “a peaceful citizen’s arrest.”

Comello viewed the man he killed as “a prominent member of the Deep State” who held “a significant status in a worldwide criminal cabal bent on the destruction of American values and the American way of life,” Gottlieb wrote.

The alleged murderer planned on delivering Cali to the military, as he believed traditional law enforcement to have been corrupted by the Deep State, his lawyer said.

Almost 1 in 5 Facebook users who shared fake news stories were Republicans over 65.

Republican baby boomers are more likely to share #fakenews on Facebook

The good news for the 2.38 billion people who use Facebook: Most Facebook users did not share any fake news articles during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign, according to a recent study but the small number who did were mostly Republican Americans over the age of 65. The findings suggest the need for “renewed attention” to educate “particular vulnerable individuals,” such as aging baby boomers, about fake news or misleading information that appears to resemble a fact-checked news article published by a legitimate and fact-based media outlet, researchers said.

So why are Republican baby boomers more likely to share fake news on Facebook? One theory: As they didn’t grow up with technology, they may be more susceptible to being fooled. (Case in point: the variety of scams that have had success with older Americans by preying on their lack of familiarity with how computers and technology work.)

Younger Americans who grew up with the internet, regardless of their political leanings, tend to be less overwhelmed by stories that cross their news feeds on Facebook and Twitter TWTR, -2.36% and more adept at spotting telltale signs of fake news. “Because of technology, we are inundated by information,” Steven Sloman, professor of cognitive, linguistic and psychological sciences at Brown University, told NPR last year. “We just don’t have time to separate the facts from the falsities. Even fact checkers don’t have time. A message can go viral before any serious truth filter has been applied. This leads to a positive feedback cycle.”

...

The results showed that 90% of these users actually did not share misleading or fake articles and only 8.5% shared one or more fake news articles. A plurality, 18%, of the Facebook users who shared the fake stories were both self-identified Republicans and over the age of 65, the authors concluded, and these individuals shared nearly seven times as many fake news articles as respondents in the youngest age group, ranging in age from 18 to 29.

George Nader, Witness in Mueller Probe, Hit With New Charges of Sex Trafficking
https://www.thedailybeast.com/george-nader-witness-in-mueller-probe-hit-with-new-charges-of-sex-trafficking
George Nader, who was a key witness in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, was hit with new federal charges of sex trafficking for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old boy he transported from Europe.

An indictment unsealed Friday morning in Eastern District of Virginia also charges Nader with counts of child pornography and obscenity. The charges come on top of separate child-porn charges leveled by the same prosecutors last month.

Nader, a 60-year-old Lebanese-American businessman with deep political and financial ties to the United Arab Emirates, was a key cooperator in Mueller’s probe of foreign influence in the 2016 election. Nader met several times with individuals associated with the Trump campaign throughout the election and into the early days of the administration. He spoke with officials and advisers on matters ranging from a pitch by a foreign firm for the campaign to use social-media manipulation to regime-change in Iran. (He met with Donald Trump Jr. and other campaign advisors about the plan, which included a proposal to use fake avatars to garner support for Trump, but Trump officials deny they ever considered it.)
