Crunchy Frog
Crunchy Frog's JournalYay! They finally decided to close the schools in Onondaga County.
Starting week after next, but kids who stay home starting this coming week are considered excused.
This means that I don't have to formally disenroll my kids and and begin officially homeschooling them.
Thank God.

CDC is witholding approval for private labs in NYS to begin testing.
https://twitter.com/NBCNewYork/status/1236676140179296257?s=20I don't know if this has already been posted here or not. I don't know why the state doesn't just get on with it, regardless of what the worthless CDC has to say.
I'm thinking about yanking my kids from school until they get this bullshit sorted out. I'm not worried about them, but we live with my 80 year old mother, and I'm not going to risk her or my lives over this shit policy.
"I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed."
"But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Uh, depending on the breaks."
If this country gets seriously hit with the coronavirus
With our current healthcare "system" being what it is, it could be truly catastrophic.
Imagine people not getting early treatment or testing for fear of unaffordable medical bills. Imagine sick people continuing to work for fear of losing their jobs or incomes. Imagine millions of people facing financial ruin due to inadequate, or lack of coverage.
On the bright side, maybe people would finally begin to see the sense in having a system of universal coverage.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the replies in this thread.
Several years ago, there was an account in the news about a construction worker who walked into an ER to get a gash on his forehead stitched up. After he was stitched up, he was told that they were going to do a rectal exam on him, which he refused to consent to. After he told them "no", they proceeded to attempt a forced rectal exam on him. He struggled and attempted to fight them off, and the next thing he knew, he woke up handcuffed to a hospital bed with a breathing tube down his trachea, the rectal exam having been done, and himself facing assault charges.
This story made it to DU, and I expressed the opinion that the medical team in question had effectively raped and sodomized this man. I received a barrage of attacks for expressing this opinion. The overwhelming opinion expressed on the thread(s) (I think there were more than one), was that the medical team had been entirely within their rights to force a rectal exam on this man, and that he had completely forfeited his right to refuse any procedure the instant that he signed the general consent form upon entering the ER.
I can recall that the story made a huge impression on me at the time, and the reaction on DU made an even bigger one.
I am very glad that the consensus on DU seems to be evolving towards a view that invasive, sensitive examinations should not be done against a patient's will, or without their consent.
Hope he ends up like Amber Guyger -
Sans the snivelling, hugging, and Bible bs.
A longer sentence too.
These animals need to learn that shooting innocent civilians minding their own business in their own homes is simply unacceptable. No matter how "scared" they are.
It's coming out like explosive diarrhea.
And the more panicked and enraged he gets, the worse things he'll do, and no one will be able to restrain him.
I don't think he even knows the difference between legal and illegal. Maybe he can't even conceptualize it.
Should be quite a show.
The real fascists mostly aren't on the streets.
They're in the White House and Congress and state legislatures. They're on the judge's benches and in the corporate boardrooms, in ICE and other law enforcement, in the think tanks and the RW propaganda apparatus, and too many other places to name.
Anyone who thinks that beating up some punks in the streets and destroying property is even going to touch the real fascists is incredibly naive or living in a fantasy world.
That's JMHO.
There's no evidence that there was any political motivation
On the part of the Dayton shooter, and to suggest that there was is to play in to the RW narrative.
Everything I've read about him describes him as someone with a long term fascination with guns, violence, and mass shootings. He had stated on previous occasions a desire to kill people, and was expelled from school for maintaining "hit" lists and rape lists.
The El Paso shooter demonstrated clear political motives, repeating the kind of rhetoric that Trump uses about Mexicans, and even writing a "manifesto".
Let's not take "both siderism" too far, especially not when it favors an incorrect RW narrative.
And why is it that Trump, or anyone else, has the right to expect members of Congress
To display fealty to any foreign country? Why should they have any kind of allegiance to Israel, or any other country besides the United States?
Isn't this the question that got Ilhan Omar into so much hot water for asking a few months ago? I think she had a valid point.
