Chuck E. Cheese going belly up, and it's not about the virus...

Apollo Global Management bought it and took it private around 2014--- that means milk it for what they can get out of it.

Well, it's milked dry and they owe a billion and bankruptcy looms. But that didn't stop them from giving out $3 million in "pre-bankruptcy bonuses".

What to do, what to do...

I was headed to our primary early voting location earlier today, but got a little sidetracked.

Later on, I got an email from the Dem committee next door telling me my preferred state senate candidate was funded by NYC real estate dark money and had been playing dirty tricks. Damn thing is that otherwise she's the most qualified.

Shit! Now what do I do? Gotta make some calls tomorrow.

Police departments are not looking for smart cops...

OK, that sounds a little too glib, but I remember a story years ago about a NJ town eliminating any recruits who scored too high on intelligence tests-- seems they would get bored on the job, among other problems.

Looking around, I found this, among other recent stories saying it's not just Joisey:

N E W L O N D O N, Conn., Sept. 8, 2000 -- A man whose bid to become a police officer was rejected after he scored too high on an intelligence test has lost an appeal in his federal lawsuit against the city.

I know that, and I don't want to sound whiny, but sometimes it goes a little far...

He's a 73 year old fat slob-- we all know that. He knows it, too, and the victory dance at the end was to show off that he could make it down the scary ramp.

Sometimes it just seems that more attention is on fairly normal aging processes than his denial of them.

Actually, the whole performance made me think of him walking a plank...

I despise Trump as much as anyone here, but I am a little insulted by the ragging on...

his walk down the ramp.

I am the same age, and take my time walking down ramps, wet or not. I do lose my my balance and fall every so often, and it is not always fun.

I did notice his little victory dance at the end, and have no idea what that was about.

So, the chairman of the joint chiefs now says he shouldn't have been in...

the march to the church.

Everyone should be allowed the occasional mistake, but is this the sort of decision making we want from the person in charge of war strategy?

I notice some discussion of Columbus and his statues these days, and did some checking...

First, Columbus Day was decreed by FDR because, well, they needed holiday around that time, and weren't too particular.

But, about Columbus hisself-- he was apparently worse than some of even his detractors think. He wiped out the populations of several Bahamian and Caribbean islands and started a profitable sex slave trade with Spain, since at first he couldn't find anything else to trade with.

He did oversee gold mining and plantations after a while, but enslaved whole populations working them. Most of them died-- the men from being overworked in the mines and the women from sexual savagery.

Eventually, he was "fired" due to the savagery and inept governing, but good ol' Ferdinand had his gold hoards overflowing so instead of beheading him, gave him his job back.

Now, there are those who deny all of this and insist the happy and peaceful island natives were actually worse, and Columbus saved them from themselves.

Considering the other Spanish actions in this here New World, I tend to believe the worst of him.

Oh, and his son is believed to be the first African slave trader in the Americas.

Just for shits and giggles went over to Discussionist for the first time in years...

Not much has changed. It's not the worst place, but "discussion" seems to be one side or the other making a point and it ends with massive condemnations of "lefty".

Kinds like real life.
