Obama And Biden Endorse Centrist Dem For Marco Rubio's Florida Senate Seat

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have endorsed Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.) to be the Democratic candidate for the Senate in one of the party's most competitive battles this cycle, according to Murphy's campaign.

The campaign sent a statement to The Huffington Post and other outlets on Wednesday morning that cited Obama's praise for Murphy's work on a range of issues and a statement from Biden calling him a champion for the middle class.

"The President, the Vice President and I share the same values and commitment -- strengthening Social Security and Medicare for our seniors, protecting a woman's right to choose, and growing America’s middle class," Murphy said, per the statement. "Over the past seven years, President Obama and Vice President Biden have been champions for Democrats and hardworking families across our country, and I am humbled and proud to receive their endorsement and campaign shoulder-to-shoulder with them for what we believe in."

The move snubs Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.), Murphy's more liberal rival for the Democratic nomination in Florida's Senate race. Coming the day after presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton largely dominated Super Tuesday primary contests against her rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), it also appeared to be a sign of the party's direction as the general election nears: coalescing behind candidates who are keen to talk about Obama's legacy rather than the revolution Sanders envisions and are more likely to appeal to voters beyond the Democratic base.

Cornel West lashes out at civil rights icons after Bernie Sanders suffers resounding South Carolina

On Saturday, the Sanders campaign suffered what the candidate described as a decimation at the hands of Hillary Clinton in South Carolina, losing his third election by nearly 50 percentage points.

“In politics, on a given night, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Tonight we lost,” Sanders gracefully conceded that evening, before moving on to campaign in the Super Tuesday state of Minnesota. But some of Sanders’ surrogates haven’t been so graceful in their concession of defeat after putting up a valiant fight for the African-American vote.

Cornel West told Vice News last week that he feared many of Clinton’s most prominent African-American supporters had lost their way. The vocal Sanders supporter singled out Congressmen John Lewis and Jim Clyburn repeatedly.

“There’s no doubt that the great John Lewis of 50 years ago is different than the John Lewis today,” West asserted. “He’s my brother. I love him, I respect his personhood, but there’s no doubt he’s gone from a high moment of Martin Luther King-like struggle to now [a] neoliberal politician in a system that is characterized more and more by legalized bribery and normalized corruption. That’s what big money does to politics. And the Clinton machine is an example of that.”

Keep digging Dr. West. Keep digging.

Here's why we should ignore MA vote

The state was founded by a bunch of religious nuts (who used firearms even before the 2nd Amendment).

The game of basketball was invented there, and to this day basketball is used to exploit the athleticism of many young black men.

Harvard is located in Massachusetts. Harvard actually conferred a degree to Ted Kaczynski who went on to be the Unibomber.

NPR: Ahead Of Super Tuesday, And After A Big Loss, Bernie Sanders Lowers Expectations

To understand how Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign is reacting to the candidate's gigantic loss in South Carolina's Democratic primary, it's important to understand how he reacted to another loss just a few weeks ago, in Iowa.

The two results couldn't be more different. Sanders' performance in Iowa could be considered a virtual tie with Hillary Clinton, and he called it just that. Clinton won the Democratic caucuses by less than half a percentage point. That night, on Sanders' chartered jet taking him from Des Moines to campaign in New Hampshire – just after what felt like a victory speech – campaign staffers popped bottles of champagne during the flight. Bernie Sanders, in an extremely good mood, came back and talked with members of the traveling press. Team Bernie was having a great night.

Flash forward to South Carolina. Sanders didn't even hold events in the state on the day of that vote. Instead, he held rallies in Austin, Dallas and Rochester, Minn. After the Dallas events, before the Sanders campaign took flight for Minnesota, the results were beginning to trickle in. There would be no champagne on the plane. There would be no friendly gaggles with the press.

By the time Sanders' plane landed in Minnesota, the results were clear, and definite. Sanders had lost South Carolina, badly. On the tarmac, he told the press, "In politics, on a given night, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Tonight we lost."

South Carolina black voters say they know Hillary Clinton well enough to pass on Bernie Sanders

His hands caked in grime from his repair job, Walter Brown coughed out a laugh when asked for his thoughts about Bernie Sanders, whose insurgent presidential campaign has electrified liberals around the country.

“Who is Bernie Sanders?” he said while sitting on a bench during an afternoon break. Brown, 59, is already leaning toward Hillary Clinton and doesn’t plan to start researching other options.

“I don’t have time,” he said, gesturing toward the downtown building where he’s been working. “I’m here all day.”

Sanders’ effort to broaden his appeal beyond white progressives and young people has run into a roadblock here in the form of black working-class voters, who in interviews here this week repeatedly voiced their longtime loyalty to Clinton. Several echoed Brown’s point that they don’t have time to explore an alternative nor interest in learning about Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont who was practically unknown in South Carolina before launching his presidential bid.

Former HHS Secretary Sebelius endorses Clinton

Source: Politico

Hillary Clinton picked up the support of former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Monday.

"I just feel that she's the only person, frankly, in the field of candidates who has the experience and background that prepares her nationally and internationally to be the leader of the country," the former governor of Kansas told the Topeka Capital-Journal. "As a mother, a grandmother and a former public servant, who had the privilege of serving with Hillary in the president's Cabinet, I can think of nothing more important than ensuring our next president is someone who will protect and build upon the progress made by President Obama over the past eight years."

In particular, Sebelius pointed to how she felt Clinton would treat issues important to women, children and families.

The endorsement from her fellow Cabinet member comes a week and a half before the Kansas Democratic primary. In 2008, Sebelius opted to endorse then-Sen. Barack Obama, a fellow Midwesterner, rather than the New York senator.

Obama 'cautiously optimistic' on TPP trade deal

Source: The Hill

President Obama said he is “cautiously optimistic” that Congress will pass his signature Pacific Rim trade deal, but he acknowledged opposition in both parties and election-year politics could stall the pact.

“I am cautiously optimistic that we can still get it done,” Obama told a gathering of the National Governors Association at the White House.

Facing opposition from labor unions and Democratic leaders in Congress, the president said he would rely on a coalition of pro-trade Democrats and Republicans in Congress to advance the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.

“Labor unions — and I am a big labor guy — they are not happy with me on this,” Obama said.
