DING DING DING! This is IT, xxqqqzme. IT. "Coupon Care." SUPERB!!!

"Coupon Care." They rename OUR plan "Obamacare"? Well, then, WE need to rename THEIR plan - "Coupon Care."

Spread this one far and wide, dear friends! AND it fits BEAUTIFULLY on a bumper sticker, to appeal to the low-information, willfully-ignorant, and heads-in-the-sand voters. IE: Pox Noise viewers and limbaugh listeners.

That made me ill. He did everything but tie on a bib.

That was NAUSEATING.

I'd rather see him do stuff like this on camera. Notice how reince priebus kept repeating his real first name at the end there? "Garbage." "Garbage." What a smug snot-nose! SMUG!!!!

I want these guys to lose for THAT, alone. I FUCKING HATE SMUG!!!!

I did too! I grew up with the nuns as well. I think we all knew that Mother Superior.

That woman was a force of nature in an itsy-bitsy physical body. And Sidney Poitier was magnificent in it! He won the Oscar for Best Actor and made history in the process as the first Black actor to do so. And his accomplishments have kept on coming. Just an all-around classy fellow.

Actually, I knew about that one. One of the most galling things, for me, that Obama's administration

failed to do.

I think that was politically motivated. They probably didn't think anybody in Congress would have their back. Remember, Democrats are, after all, the Great Capitulators. The ultimate Cavemen - at least up until recently. They probably thought they had to pick their battles and maybe this didn't affect individuals in need the way securing some sort of health care reform did. I'm sure they debated and weighed all the elements. Too much and too powerful pushback from the republi-CONS, and the CON-leaning media.

This actually makes me start wondering - were they testing the wind when Janet Napolitano, as Secretary of the Homeland Security Department, issued that study that warned about rising violence and disruption from "right-wing" (I HATE using the word "right" in this context, since the so-called "right" wing is ANYTHING BUT!) extremist groups as posing threats to safety and security on the domestic front? I'm sure they were attempting to pinpoint and understand where the threats might come from. That report came out pretty early in the Obama Administration. Do you suppose they were doing Obama-related risk-assessment? I'm sure there had to be a heightened awareness across the administration that racism might become more rampant again, since we were breaking new societal ground with the inauguration of the first Black politician to be elected President of the United States. I'm wondering if they reasoned that this historic event wouldn't sit well with some, and hoped to be able to head off a few things if the rabble turned ugly. It certainly occurred to me as the 2008 election drew closer and it seemed as though Obama had a good chance of winning. I had no idea the extent of the utterly irrational reaction - which I think is exactly where and why the teabagger plague erupted all over this country.

I bet the more hard-bitten realists and cynics among them knew they'd be facing some degree of uphill battle. Which means they probably got ruthlessly practical and picked their battles. And unfortunately, bringing the fucking war criminals to justice wasn't one of them. Maybe they thought health care reform was more important and that this was where they were gonna spend their political capital. They probably figured they'd lose on this one if they pressed it. Too much opposition and CONS strategically appointed to all the key lifetime and bureaucratic positions, lest we all forget how many of those assholes had bush/cheney's back, had the messaging muscle and media monopolies and armies of low-information Troglodytes behind them. Probably reasoned - "well, we'll wind up stalemated there so we won't get that and then the momentum will be against us and we won't get health care and certainly won't get more jobs programs either," and decided "well, let's try to at least get health care."

STILL does NOT make it right (as in correct, or moral), though.

The Kennedy patriarchs had a few things to atone for.

And I think their family DID do just that. They embodied "noblesse oblige" - to quote Wikipedia, from the French: "nobility obliges." Or as we say around our house, "much blessed, much obligated." In terms of the level and extent of their collective public service, I think they very much atoned for whatever sins their forefathers - and even they themselves - committed. Because they used their wealth, power, and elite status for the benefit of the greater good.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noblesse_oblige

It's how you live your life. If you're able to do more, you damn well SHOULD. If you're able to give more, DAMMIT, you SHOULD. SUIT UP, dammit, and get yer ass out there and help somebody. Your advantaged position fucking DEMANDS it. You're blessed to the skies? Born to wealth and privilege? Then you're fucking OBLIGATED, pal. You may not have any financial debts, but you still owe, BIGTIME. DO something, other than just generate and then hide money. DO something that may or may not benefit you directly, line your pockets, make you famous, or gain you power. They used their wealth and power and influence to do good for those who weren't so privileged. It's like reagan kept saying - "are you better off today than you were (fill-in-the-blank-here) years ago?" Well, are you? Are we? Are we better off, overall, because the Kennedys came our way? And that includes Ted. I think we are.

There's a TON of stuff Eric Holder hasn't done that's URGENT.

I keep wondering what the fuck he's doing about the voter suppression. CAN'T the Justice Department issue an injunction that overrides the states on this? I myself don't know the answer to that one. WHY was this problem allowed to continue and WHY wasn't it quashed MONTHS AGO??????????????

And WHY are the war criminals from the last administration still allowed to walk free and live fat 'n' sassy, when they should be behind bars and facing prosecution?

There are TONS of these things. AND the issues surrounding your point as well!

But Eric Holder's just been far too busy persecuting marijuana clubs.

Exactly. Indicative of a MUCH more sophisticated and highly-evolved culture.

They are our superiors. The REAL adults in the room.

Kicked for this post alone! Thanks, tularetom!

LOVE the way Jon Stewart cut little tucker carlson into itty bitty pieces. Utterly ruined him - he (and "Crossfire," too) never recovered from this take-down. And, gratefully, this clip will follow him to the end of his days - and beyond. -

Well-deserved! Jon Stewart, YOU ROCK! You didn't just make an on-camera appearance. You performed a public service!

We're not gonna be your monkey either, bowtie-boy.

Proudly ignorant. Deliberately ignorant - and very proud of it.

THAT is what scares me.

A couple of decades from now, they're gonna look around one day and discover that America ranks 88th in the world in reading skills, mathematical skills, knowledge of science and history, the scientific method; and all the cool new discoveries and gadgets and vaccines and cures and inventions and discoveries - are going to be coming from some other country. And I guarantee you they won't understand why. Even when you explain it to them.

But they'll be able to quote Deuteronomy and Leviticus til the cows come home, and they'll think that's good enough.

I felt that way too - until I just had a belly-full.

And, frankly, I am DONE with being polite or nice or cordial or accommodating. Tried it. Didn't help. Didn't work. Didn't earn any cooperation from them. They don't even want to hear about it.

I've had this running conversation with a friend who says she's a conservative. I repeatedly point out: you're on disability, you're female, you'd qualify as one of the have-nots according to them. And they hate you. They have NO interest whatsoever in you, your issues, your concerns, OR your needs. They see you as one of the people in the way of their making bigger profits. WHY IN GOD'S SWEET NAME do you align yourself with them? All those state and federal programs that assist you and provide you a safety net - who do you think came up with those? And who do you think fought every last one of them because they didn't want them and didn't want people like you to have them? And who would eagerly snatch those benefits away from you at this very moment if they could? Who's working hard to cut those things back and deny them to you and keep you from getting the help you need? And she has to concede - CONs are the ones working against her, whose interests and priorities are against her, and liberals are the ONLY reason she has any safety net to fall back on - AT ALL.

And she says - "well, I've always been that. It's hard to change." And I tell her - well, change is sometimes necessary, especially when you have to protect what little you have from the assholes wanting SO BADLY to take it away from you. And WHO are the assholes whose priority is to take it away from you? And WHO are the people trying to save those benefits and even dare we say try to increase them a little bit?

I keep having to point out to her -
WHO IS IT who's going after women?
WHO IS IT who thinks you have some mysterious thing inside your body that somehow prevents you from conceiving if you're raped?
WHO IS IT who's trying in states all across America to TAKE AWAY people's right to vote?
WHO IS IT who's busy trying to force their narrow anti-scientific views on the whole country?
WHO IS IT who's denying climate change and scoffing at studies that show health hazards from radiation and nuclear plants? (She lives in Santa Monica near the ocean and has been keeping track of the stories of glow-in-the-dark seaweed from the radiation that's moved over here from Fukushima.)
WHO IS IT who's cutting back on benefits for the handicapped - or wants to?
WHO IS IT who'd really like to see Medicare and Social Security and State Disability and other elements of the social safety net done away with, simply because they don't think government should do those things. They don't really think the government is there to promote and protect the public welfare.

And reluctantly she answers. She still clings to the old knee-jerk "Conservatives good! Liberals BAD!" crap she got from her parents and everybody else around her when she was a kid.

But I'm working on her.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
