calimary's JournalMy ass.
SUUUUUURE he had no idea what that crank ted cruz was all about. Uh-huh. Yeah, I'll believe that when I believe they'll be handing out nice new consciences at the next GOP CONvention.
I think their target era might be more probably the Bronze Age.
1895 is WAY too modern for them.
Welcome to DU, Uponthegears!
Glad you're here! It sure did open up a can of worms. Just like SCOTUS's Citizens United ruling. I wonder if, years from now, maybe even one or two of 'em on the bad side of these rulings will wake up and realize just what they've done, the genie-from-Hell that they unleashed, the Pandora's Box they opened. I get cold comfort from sandra day o'connor, who YEARS LATER, after having ruled for bush in bush v Gore, FINALLY came around to realizing that - "um, well, er, uh, yeah, guess maybe that was a bad ruling... we kinda shouldn't have done that..." Too little too late, lady. Thanks for NOTHING.
That was my initial response, too. Just seeing the subject line.
"Which one?"
Discouraging. And disheartening.
Well, I hope so...
but I've gotta admit, learning that he's a self-proclaimed republi-CON actually changed my opinion of him a little.
I totally support his journey - if he feels that's truly and genuinely who he is making the transition he's making, then I support that. I know the news reporter who is now Zoey Tur. She made the transition. Used to be Bob Tur, and at times during my career I'd see him out working some of the same stories I was working. It's a brave step he's taking. Hell, it's a brave step that ANYBODY standing in those shoes undertakes. Yesterday I heard a local radio report - sidebar time! They interviewed Zoey to get the view from one who does indeed walk in those shoes. She talked about how it's actually like a death. The person you used to be is gone. Dead. Irretrievable. She talked about how final that transition is. It's the kind of transition so profound that I don't think any of us who don't face that kind of inner turmoil or questioning can fully grasp. I can't imagine having to deal with something that cataclysmic within one's own self! Then again, though, it's really not for any of us outsiders to say, one way or the other. It's none of our business, really. He's a celebrity so it kind of is, but really, this is a very personal journey HE is on.
So it's never been this chapter in Bruce Jenner's story that's bothered me. I hope EVERY individual everywhere finds his or her true path, personal truth, and hopefully, achieving one's own inner happiness and contentment in life.
But I gotta say - hearing he's a republi-CON was disappointing to me. Frankly hearing ANYBODY is a republi-CON is disappointing to me, and tends to tell me something less than good about them. I DO have a bias and a prejudice - against the GOP. I'm with you, PeaceNikki. I wish EVERYBODY was a liberal.
Welcome to DU, Squantoish!
Glad you're here! Yeah, I think he's finished, too. OUCHez-vous! I think about it and I grimace. The network can't have a compromised anchorman as the face of its news division. This is becoming too big a mess. He can't come back.
No kidding. We're more than half the population of the world.
We span EVERY other demographic group there is: age, race, religion, marital status. Why aren't WE in charge? Why haven't we had a realistic shot at it til now? We've had 44 Presidents. They've ALL been men. Hell, even the monarchies of Europe had a woman leading things here and there. Isn't it time for a REAL change? I want ALL the ceilings broken. I'm glad it's happened for African Americans. I expect to see a Latino (or Latina?) in the Oval Office within my lifetime. Maybe a gay President too. I would guess that all the barriers will fall down eventually. Besides, there's too much of a farm team building locally/regionally in each demographic, too. But I think women deserve a shot.
Harry Reid, interviewed by Rachel Maddow, I believe, said that in all his years in the Senate, he found that the increasing number of women made a huge difference, all to the positive. Things were better with women participating. For many reasons, including the tendency to be less combative, less in-yer-face, more collegial and practical and "let's fix this already" or "this problem NEEDS to be solved." More got accomplished because there were more women playing active roles. He hoped to see the numbers of women in government increase.
Watercolors?
Pretty, pretty, pretty!
Thanks for posting these, my dear Peggy! They're really wonderful! What a nice memory to have of our friend WCGreen.
