The Post of the Day!

It's about time we all do more of this, Freddie.

CORRECT THE RECORD - EACH AND EVERY TIME the bad guys attempt to distort it! Reiterate the TRUE meaning of the word so it is more accurately used, heard, and understood. Entitlement does indeed mean you paid into it so that entitles you to the benefits from it. As in - those benefits that you've already paid for, in advance.

That's why whenever assholes like ted cruz say they've listened to "the American People," someone must ALWAYS question - "um, 'the American People'? WHAT 'American People'? Because obviously you aren't listening to MY kind of 'American People.' Someone ALWAYS needs to clarify - "WHICH 'American People' are you referencing here, sir? Because most Americans from coast-to-coast disagree with you."

That's why you ALWAYS need to check them on their statements - "oh, 'the American People' believe this? Which ones? Because the polls and studies and other research tell the opposite story. Please cite me some of that research." (Then, of course, that research needs to be questioned as well because more often than not it'll come from some biased source like the Cato Institute and the American Enterprise Institute and the Heritage Foundation, OR they'll have found it on the utterly unreliable breitbart.com or newsman.com. "Oh, 'it's in the Bible?' Where, exactly? Where did they carry on about how God favors the rich? Where does it quote Jesus as saying 'Blessed are the rich?' Where does it say we're entitled to impose some capitalistic empire around the world by force? Where does it quote Jesus as saying 'Blessed are the war-makers?'"

I've actually enjoyed debunking outfits like breitbart.com. He was a walking hatchet-job with an agenda axe to grind. And just about all I ever have to detail is the time he ran out toward the cameras by an Occupy camp, yelling about how Occupy rapes people and there's a police file a mile long! "Seventeen incidents of rape involving Occupy!" OMGOMGOMGOMG! Well, wanna know the truth? About the only thing true is the number 17 - because there were 17 incidents. HOWEVER the victims were almost entirely Occupy members. THAT'S how this involved Occupy. The instance that did not directly involve Occupy members who were raped, was a rape that happened at the same time as Occupy was going on - but a couple of blocks away from the Occupy gathering. It was unrelated to Occupy. Just happened to be geographically close. But ol' breitbart tried to drape the "rapists!!!" charge on Occupy and was foiled. You really wanna trust THAT source? 'Cause even though he's dead and gone, his name and "sterling" traditions continue.

You ALWAYS have to check these people. Fact-check them. Get a second opinion - that'll be a lot less biased than any corroboration they're apt to offer. AND YOU HAVE TO SAY SO. OUT LOUD.

Welcome to DU, Token Republican!

Glad you're here! All the serious problems we're having now - got their start with him. Don't forget - religious extremism came to life on his watch. And that's led to everything from intolerance toward gays to climate change denial and science denunciation. Eight long miserable years of suckez-vous. Sixteen if you're a longtime Californian. We had eight annoying and frustrating years of him as governor.

What was so dangerous and so damaging about him was his smooth-talking, slick-yet-folksy, aw-shucks, sloganeering, congenial, amiable, harmless old uncle schtick. It was schtick. ALL salesmanship and cosmetics and cue cards and ad slogans and Busby Berkeley and "Old Dutch" and "The Gipper," schtick. He was the quarterback who carried the ball for this whole cabal of industrialists and conservative publishers and commentators, and think-tankers and that whole infrastructure. It was definitely their "Morning in America." Where greed wasn't just good it was great and even godly. Where hatred of government rose to nearly-obscene levels of intensity - government was the problem. Where the prevailing nickname for his administration was "Millionaires on Parade." Where the takeover of the message machine started - late in that bastard's second term is when the deregulation of broadcasting and lifting of ownership restrictions got started. Where "liberal" became a dirty word. Where "union" became a dirty word, too.

ICK. If I had my way, we'd be rolling back the utterly nauseating efforts to name every last mountain, building, school, airport, freeway, insane asylum, dam, and sanitation installation after him. ICK. He can have his presidential library. And that's IT.

One for my quotes collection.

Good advice: ''Don't spend time being angry at people. Forgive them. Life is entirely too short. Be good to each other.''

At her death she left us some good words to live by.

I can't help thinking some bush/cheney people got to him.

He was leading the charge on duhbya's truncated time in the Texas Air National Guard champagne squadron, where I understand he got very nicely caught up on his dental work, thanks to American taxpayers, that is. david gregory was all over that and I remember how his questions made scotty mclellan squirm like a roof full of bored pre-schoolers!

And that was that. That's where it ended. Shortly thereafter, all those doggedly persistent and pointed questions trying to probe the truth about bush's early bail-out, were no more. No doggedly persistent anything. Just dog. Lapdog. Soon enough, david gregory was the White House pet and designated heir to tim russert on "Meet the Press."

BINGO!

Good point, Kelvin Mace! CLEARLY they figured only friendly eyes, only insiders with a "need to know" would see this. No need to obfuscate or tiptoe around the terminology. LOVE IT!!!

That's exactly what it is.

Welcome to DU, Leith!

Glad you're here! And you're correct. That was no apology. If this weasel were any kind of real man, he would man up and apologize to the President. Instead, his shameless and predictable default is a bunch of antics with semantics. Unless you rethink it a little and realize he actually did apologize - or maybe that's how we should characterize it, just to get his goat. "You did apologize, chump-change. TO President Obama - who is MOST CERTAINLY a man much better than yourself.

WHAT soul?

Seems to me this is evidence enough that some of these people have no soul at all. Certainly no heart!

February 20, 2014

Well, if you don't feel it in yourself, I guess you have to resort to what I've heard described as

"an attitude-adjustment device."

THIS:

The guns are the problem. Take the gun out of the hands of Michael Dunn, and he backs the fuck up and drives away. See, if you have time to reach in your glove compartment and get your semi-automatic pistol out, you have time to shift into "reverse." If the semi-automatic pistol ain't there, all you got is a car that moves in various directions. Without his gun, George Zimmerman sits in his fuckin' car and waits for the cops. Without his gun, Curtis Reeves goes back to his fucking seat and watches a shitty movie. Because these men, and so many others, are pussies who would never push things to a confrontation without having the gun readily available.

You should be able to defend yourself when you're being attacked. But you should also have the balls to fucking suck it up and walk away or call a cop. Instead, we have states that are filthy with racists who have been told they don't have to back down for anyone, least of all that scary-looking nigger. Well, that racist is gonna think, what the fuck is the gun for anyway?

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
