My daughter is 23. She told me all her friends had voted and voted for Obama.

I've talked to her about the fight to keep the right to have the last word, indeed, total sovereignty over her body. I've told her about the women's movement and how hard we've struggled and for how many millennia women have been considered property. We've talked a lot about the right to choose and how under seige it is. She told me all her girlfriends voted Democratic, and she added - "don't worry, Mom. We get it."

MADE ME SOOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!

Good idea!

We need to call them and hound them about this, and remind them WHO WON THE ELECTION and to get in line and behave!

If they think you don't care, they won't either!!!!

Aw, thank you! And yes, my icon is John Lennon.

I LOVE that song. I made a mosaic stepping stone for our garden using the musical notations for the first couple of measures. It's pretty cool! LONGTIME Beatle fan. And I always admired him. So I'll share one of my favorite John Lennon stories:

I was working at NBC News in Burbank when he got shot. I was part of a new young-adult radio network that they'd started up, for rock stations. I'd already put in a full day's work and I was home that night, in my bathrobe, eating dinner with my husband. The phone rang. On the other line was this rather beloved curmudgeonly old gent named Sherman who worked the nighttime network desk in Burbank. He had to be near retirement age, and he was short and round and rumpled and kinda bent over, and he walked with a limp. He had a growly gravely voice that EVERYONE in the bureau could imitate, myself included. And he was very good-natured about it - he honestly loved hearing us do impersonations of him. Everyone loved him for the crusty-but-benign, adored but kind of out-of-it "family elder" he was. And sure enough, the voice on the other end of the phone that Monday night was his.

"Uh, Mary, uh, New York just called. One of the Lennon Brothers just got shot."

I wasn't sure what I just heard. "Sherman, one of the Lennon Brothers?" "Yeah, they just called. They told me to get ahold of you." I thanked him and said I would call the NY desk immediately, which I did. I thought - "Lennon Brothers? Could it be? Naaahh, no way. Good God I hope not! HAS TO be somebody else." But of course, I learned straight away that my worst fears were confirmed. It was indeed John Lennon having been shot. I threw on my clothes, grabbed my car keys and made a beeline for the bureau to jump on the phone and work the story for react from anyone we could find, since it was still relatively early in the evening on the West Coast.

Months later, I happened to have the good fortune to interview Harry Nilsson, the singer-songwriter who wrote "Everybody's Talkin'" and "Without You" and a whole lot of other hits, and he'd been a good friend of John Lennon's. They'd shared that infamous "Lost Weekend" here in L.A. when John had briefly separated from Yoko Ono and came out here to drink and smoke and screw and avail himself of whatever other substances and entertainments he could think of. Part of that included their both getting thrown out of the legendary Troubadour night club for the drunken heckling of the Smothers Brothers during their set. After the interview, which was at the bureau, Nilsson wanted to grab a Coke or something on the way out, so I walked him over to the world-renowned NBC Commissary. We sat down for a few minutes and I told him that story about Sherman and the Lennon Brothers. I thought he was gonna have an epileptic fit! He exploded into laughter so loud it disrupted every other activity in the Commissary and people turned around and stared. He damn near tipped over backwards and fell out of his chair. When he finally regained his composure, he wheezed - "John woulda LOVED that!!!!!"

I certainly offer mine! From both (hands) sides!

Dear God! Perhaps the only thing that consoles me for Al Gore having "lost" in 2000. Ol' joe would have been VP.

Awww... poor widdle thing!

Must just kill him to have to reel it back in like this. Boo hoo.

Well, guess maybe you can't start your beloved impeachment proceedings today, can you, asshole? As Kathleen Parker once said - "put on your clown suit and go play in the street."

End of first paragraph on Page 2. I don't agree with her on some things, here or elsewhere, but that particular line was PRICELESS!!!!!

Knowing the track record for the GOP's lies and penchant for malicious mischief against political

foes, AND knowing kkkarl rove's track record for sneaky-ass duplicitous schemes, I would actually bet on that ORCA program being everything Anonymous says it was. The GOP CANNOT be trusted. And it wouldn't surprise me at all if they put something together to try to make SURE the fix was in. I'm just looking at past track records, that's all. As that old cliche says, the past is prologue. This would have been a scam to make lee atwater proud enough to try to rise from the dead. And that it might have been cooked up by his most loyal and attentive disciple - well, what I've seen and observed over numerous election cycles, and the way the GOP tends to maintain a default position of attempting to rig the game, either overtly or covertly, tells me this is plausible.

I wouldn't be ONE BIT surprised, considering the people involved here.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
