Washington Gov. Jay Inslee criticized his fellow Democratic presidential candidate, former Texas Rep. Beto ORourke, on Monday, saying ORourke did not lead on climate change as a member of Congress.
"Climate change will be the top issue in this primary, and it's good news that Democratic candidates are putting forward ideas on the issue, said Inslee, who has made climate change the central issue of his campaign. But, voters have a right to look closely at Democratic candidates' plans to separate rhetoric from results on climate change.
Inslee released the statement in response to a $5 trillion climate change plan ORourke issued Monday, in which he called for efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050, as well as updates to infrastructure and investments in climate sustainability in local communities.
The plan, the Inslee campaign wrote, contains several policy initiatives Inslee undertook as governor, including expansion of zero-emission vehicles, hydrofluorocarbon restrictions and accelerated clean energy deployment.
"Beto O'Rourke will need to answer why he did not lead on climate change in Congress and why he voted on the side of oil companies to open up offshore drilling, the Inslee campaign wrote. We look forward to a climate debate where voters will have the opportunity to hear about which candidates have a strong, extensive record of fighting climate change and which candidates have a record of siding with fossil fuel companies."

(2,113 posts)I hadn't, but because I heard that Climate Change was his pet issue I looked on his website and based on what I saw from someone completely unfamiliar with him, Beto's plan is more detailed. If Inslee has something more detailed he should probably put it up on his site.

(89,276 posts)Beto is going about this the right way in dealing with his record.
but Inslee is still the best on this issue.
and I say this as someone that is supporting Beto over Inslee.

(2,113 posts)It's not wise for Inslee to criticize Beto's plan or attack him because most people hearing it don't have any idea who Inslee even is...unless they live in that region of the country, and most Americans don't. So what will happen is that people will go look at Inslee's website after reading the attack and when they do they will find far less than what is in Beto's plan. It will make Inslee look dishonest, petty and silly. I don't think it's going to be helpful to him. Instead, he should just get his own plan out.

Launched the states first-ever Clean Energy Fund to support research, and development and deployment in clean energy technologies, smart grid innovation and more. To date, the fund has provided more than $125 million to support transformative projects and create jobs around the state;
Passed a historic 16-year, $16 billion transportation package - the largest and greenest in state history - that included authorization for an unprecedented expansion of transit and light rail options in the Seattle metro area;
Launched an aggressive initiative to promote electric vehicles (EV) and infrastructure in Washington state, including a new Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Bank - propelling Washington to one of the top three states in the nation for EV purchases, and setting the course to electrify and transition the states ferry fleet, which is the largest in the nation, to electric and electric hybrid;
Passed a crucial solar incentive bill in 2017 that dramatically increased the installed solar capacity in Washington state by 250 percent;
Started a Clean Energy Institute at the University of Washington which is pioneering research into next-generation renewable energy technologies, like solar and battery storage;
Transformed state government operations to reduce greenhouse gas pollution, through to reduce emissions by 14 percent since 2005, thanks to building efficiency upgrades, transitioning the states fleet to EVs, and transitioning to 100% clean electricity at state government offices;
Used executive authority to limit carbon pollution, by issuing a Clean Air Rule to cap carbon emissions from all the largest sources;
Helped build momentum for state and local climate action through various partnerships such as the Pacific Coast Collaborative, Under2 Coalition, and co-founding the International Ocean Acidification Alliance and the the bipartisan U.S. Climate Alliance, - a bipartisan coalition working to uphold U.S. climate goals under the Paris agreement.

I feel like I'm probably going to end up supporting Harris and/or Biden (not necessarily in that order) but haven't made up my mind. It doesn't matter at this point. What I want is to hear the truth from and about our nominees.
