(58,785 posts)In 2016, after a quarter century in congress, he, stunningly, revealed he didn't know how he would use government to implement his dreams. What'd he do all those years, with a highly skilled and expensive professional staff to help him develop understanding? Just daydream in between haranguing his colleagues for not agreeing with his undeveloped ideas and doing whatever he needed to get reelected?
Looking back at his first 20 years of abandoned efforts at many different lines of work, none of them steady jobs that required him to produce, I smiled and liked someone taking all that time in poverty to "find" himself and that turning out to be in a United States senator -- the American Dream in action. I really should have wondered if that might still be part of who he is, especially after I came to suspect he was one of the many at high levels whose only big talent is for self aggrandizement.
Sanders: Sanders: Well, by the way, the idea of breaking up these banks is not an original idea. It's an idea that some conservatives have also agreed to. ... And I think that if somebody, like if Teddy Roosevelt were alive today, he would look at that. Forgetting even the risk element, the bailout element, and just look at the kind of financial power that these guys have, would say that is too much power.
Daily News: Okay. Well, let's assume that you're correct on that point. How do you go about doing it?
Sanders: How you go about doing it is having legislation passed, or giving the authority to the secretary of treasury to determine, under Dodd-Frank, that these banks are a danger to the economy over the problem of too-big-to-fail.
Daily News: But do you think that the Fed, now, has that authority?
Sanders: Well, I don't know if the Fed has it. But I think the administration can have it.
Daily News: How? How does a President turn to JPMorgan Chase, or have the Treasury turn to any of those banks and say, "Now you must do X, Y and Z?"
Sanders: Well, you do have authority under the Dodd-Frank legislation to do that, make that determination.
Daily News: You do, just by Federal Reserve fiat, you do?
Sanders: Yeah. Well, I believe you do. ...
Daily News: Okay. You saw, I guess, what happened with Metropolitan Life. There was an attempt to bring them under the financial regulatory scheme, and the court said no. And what does that presage for your program?
Sanders: It's something I have not studied, honestly, the legal implications of that. ...
Daily News: Okay. But do you have a sense that there is a particular statute or statutes that a prosecutor could have or should have invoked to bring indictments?
Sanders: I suspect that there are. Yes.
Daily News: You believe that? But do you know?
Sanders: I believe that that is the case. Do I have them in front of me, now, legal statutes? No, I don't. But if I would...yeah, that's what I believe, yes.
And so on.

After #SheThePeople BS sends Nina out to scold the WOC audience @ a predominantly white crowd rally.. escalating the Division.

Then Nina goes on Joy's and dodges questions, coming up with completely irrelevant talking points just like BS did.

her just as she was hammering home inconvenient truths.
Nina talked over Joy and would not stop. I guess we watched different clips. I watched it live this morning. Nina was one with the "inconvenient truths." She did not answer the question, nor did BS. Why? They can't.
Joy asks her why black women should support BS.
The answers were non answers. Nina blew it here.
* Healthcare for all. Non answer once again.
*His Father was a Holocaust survivor. My heart goes out to all the survivors. I am glad he got out, yet that has nothing to do with how he gains the WOC vote.
The question Joy asked Nina was specific and Nina never answered it.

60. Too bad the OP's video doesn't work but your post reinforces the point of mine,
Nina was hammering home "inconvenient truths" and Joy didn't like it.
So the link did not work for you???? Hmmm Yet you comment on what was said without having watched it? How does that work? How does that reinforce your point on a video that you said does not play for you.
Confused here reading the thread above...you saw it or not?

(58,417 posts)with no interview, if you click on it a second time, it goes to the MSNBC site but I still didn't see that video in the selection.
P.S. I just found it and am viewing it now.
P.S.S. I just counted it and Joy gave Nina all of 7 to 8 seconds before Reid interrupted her the first time.
I'm getting sleepy and will come back and view the rest tomorrow morning.
Peace to you sheshe.

(83,898 posts)Wow. 7 or 8 seconds. Turner was rude and talked over (ranted) for far longer than that. The two men on the panel with Nina were not rude at all and did not talk over the host. Fact is the host is the moderator on every news cast. They only have so much time for their segments and need to give equal time to all participants. No one person is allowed to negate their voices by talking longer than allowed. Seems to me that Joy Reid was reclaiming their time to speak.

(83,898 posts)You are making this about Joy, when in fact it should be about the conversation in the time stamp that George provided.
Nina Turner was part of the panel. As his campaign manager she was ill prepared and was not able to answer why black women should support BS. I seriously think he needs a new manager, She is doing him no favors.

(15,650 posts)was specifically aimed at denigrating Sanders. She didnt report on the She the People forum she reported on Sanders performance in that forum.
As for Nina Turner, I agree. She was ill prepared. The whole thing was a gotcha episode. She should have been prepared for that just based on experience.
Joy harbors a grudge against Sanders and it clearly shows. Its all based on the notion that Sanders caused our loss in 2016 which totally and conveniently misses the forest for the trees. Its not us, its him! ... Well, we dont have to vote for Sanders and most wont. Im pretty sure I wont unless a few candidates have bowed out by the Oregon primary. But doing everything we can to divide and alienate people who adhere to many of his views is just plain foolish.

He received plenty of quiet evaluation and either liking or indifference before he fully earned what comes to those who helped throw our nation to what the Republicans have become.

(15,650 posts)From the perspective of many obviously, Sanders simply countered the establishments offensive. The antagonism was already present and coming from the what was otherwise the same side.
Theres plenty of blame to go around for throwing our country to what the Rs have become as you day. Pinning it on Sanders is folly.

(58,785 posts)do you imagine Sanders might say he's considering suing over the primary voting season, claiming they stole the primary elections from him? Any guess? Less than a dozen? One? Two?
Hey, just realized. We could have some fun at this. It could be a running bet over the primary voting season, only maybe using more specific numbers. 5, 11, 18, 31, etc.
Remembering past behaviors, that opens up lots of possibilities. We could bet on how many threatened lawsuits were actually filed. And on how many of those lawsuits would be dropped after the press moved on and before the discovery phase required the campaign to present evidence.
We could see if anyone would like to bet that a Sanders suit against one of our state parties actually proceeded to court. And if it did, on the outcome.
What do you think? We'd have to agree on some rules, of course. When asked by an expectant press if he intended to sue again, a "we're considering it," with a grim sigh and pursed-lip head sake in sorrowful anger over it happening yet again, would constitute a threat, but I'm thinking just the sigh etc would just be an accusation of further massive corruption to confirm his loyalists's suspicions and provide justification for anger.

(297,655 posts)for not being able to answer the questions.. and so does Nina Turner.
The WOC@#SheThePeople booed BS because he was asked a vital question.. and he tried to use his "I marched with MLK" to avoid answering about what he'd do to "fight white supremacists".
The boos started when he couldn't explain how he'll appeal to black women.
The BS team should have put their energy into figuring out how to win a room full of black women Before he came to #SheThePeople
It was too important for them to sit passively by while he droned on about what he did 56 years ago, when the question was an important one for the here and now.
Then he sends Nina Turner to go out there to escalate it instead of addressing the problem.

(4,035 posts)McConnell also attended Dr. King's "I have a dream" speech, same as Senator Sanders. Living at such a seminal time and doing no more than Mitch the turtle isn't something to be proud of.
When Selma happened, Senator Sanders was travelling in Europe, and he didn't bother voting for the ground-breaking 1962 and 1964 Congresses, which voted in the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act respectively. His protest while at the University of Chicago was for co-ed private housing off-campus - the University of Chicago desegregated in 1870, and was among the very first universities in the US to admit African Americans and women.
In other words, Senator Sanders' record on civil rights is not exactly stellar, but it isn't completely awful either. He did endorse Rev. Jesse Jackson's runs for President, and considering how the Senator has a consistent tradition of not endorsing anyone, that does show some effort. However, he hasn't introduced any legislation that is specifically aimed at African Americans, not even after his lack of policies aimed at their circumstances was amply demonstrated to him a couple of years ago. He has not been at the forefront concerning the issue of bail, or African American maternal risk, or anything else.
