Related: About this forumThe Biden Abides
I don't have to worry about Joe Biden. He's The Dude.
Biden could turn into a progressive through the pick of his running mate. He listens. He evolves. He don't take no shit from Trump.
The Big Thing: Biden will pull out Pennsylvania, which is the state Repubs have depended on to win for Trump. Now they're worried. Good.
I'm a progressive who wants a candidate who wants humans to run this government, not corporations.
But Biden's taking corporate money does not equal corruption, we don't have to tolerate that argument from the doubters.
I'll still vote for Biden if he gets the nomination. Believe that.
Joe ain't no "crazy uncle." He's the dude that abides.
No one has to like Biden to know that he'll be -- on his worst day, week, or month -- a million times better than Trump, the lawless lover of lawless, weapons-toting mobs.
The campaign theme "America Is an Idea" reflects Joe's life.
"America is an idea" that smashes all the politics of personal destruction, false equivalency, spite, "great again" divisiveness -- and above all -- shit hole country lawlessness.

(3,680 posts)I loved it. I will vote for whoever gets the nomination but I think Biden will be strongest against trump.
I would love to see them debate.
Also he can speak directly to the Russian issue that was known before the 2016 election, and how GOP/McConnell blocked it from coming out.

All of them would be great but as it stands right now only Joe has come out swinging hard.
I want someone hard hitting and to me that is either Kamala or Joe.

(14,585 posts)If he's elected we just need to hold him accountable for a progressive agenda. Because, left to himself, he's a bit of a corporate conservative. He has evolved, though. I'll give him that, and he was a good VP for Obama.

(2,412 posts)Joe is the man to bring us together. But he must repudiate his vote and active support for the Iraq War. Would he cooperate with the MIC to sustain our wars on the Middle East? Where is he on Iran? Afghanistan? Iraq? These are a money drain that is hurting our country and it is why we cant have nice things! Will our tax dollars go or wars or to help our own people live better and more securely?

(32,640 posts)for voting for a resolution to go to the UN to intervene, and use the possibility of the U.S. having to go to war on their own as leverage to get the UN to take action?
But that sort of doublespeak aside, a POTUS inherits a world, and the results/consequences of past U.S. policy when they enter office. In foreign policy the choices are often not between "civilians get killed/civilians don't get killed" but "Many civilians die/Many civilians die and the power structure in the region changes for the worse."
I am more interested to know who they would choose as advisors. In the world as it is right now, to simply say, "We don't order military strikes that are not directly in a defensive response to an attack on our own citizens and land" isn't realistic or honest.
I want someone who can sit at the table with military leaders and listen to them, and then make decisions under the guidance of expert diplomats and others with a specialty in the issue where military action is expected to alter the course of things towards a positive.

Biden will widen his support just by kicking Trump daily. He won't even have to talk about anything else - people trust him to do the right thing on healthcare, environment, minimum wage, equal pay, gun control, woman's right to choose and a myriad of progressive issues.

(4,986 posts)Made me tear up, watching Biden talk about the importance of unions before the electrical workers union a few weeks back. I realized then that he had the stuff needed.
Now, that said, I am smitten with other candidates as well. I'm giving to three at the moment. More after I get my tax refund, etc.
Warren is a real deal, knows how it all works... Amazing force to reckon with. As an economics degree holder, who graduated just before the recession, I have been a major fan of hers for years.
Could not believe the crowds Beto could draw in Texas. Inspire the salt of the Earth folks and progressives who feel betrayed by a state government rigged-up to stay red. Saw this with my own eyes, I did. I adore how he can deliver an in-depth, egalitarian message without flinching.
Buttigieg, Inslee, and Harris have caught my attention as well. I am thrilled that there are so many class act, grade A, excellent dem candidates out there shining a beacon of light thru the swampy fog that trump expects us to lie down in and just accept. Well, I'm not doing it.
I'd rather spend my spare nickles on candidates than on that new pair of shoes, or fast food, or whatever other thing that I prolly don't need. If dollars are free speech, then I'd like to be heard right now.

(1,201 posts)Votes and actions he now regrets will all come out and there is a lot of it. But at the end of the day he is still a moderate in a time when we need immediate bold action. I'd still vote for him just not in the primary. I don't believe any of our candidates would lose to Trump but do feel Biden would come the closest.

(838 posts)that I decided on Biden to unseat this trump when those Joe-Barack memes came out in between election day 2016 and the inauguration:
BIDEN: I'll do it quiet. Just a few notes...
OBAMA: NO Joe, you CAN'T hum the Imperial March when he pulls up to the White House!
BIDEN: I left a Kenyan passport in your desk and a prayer rug in the residence, just to fuck with him. He's gonna lose it!
OBAMA: Joe...
BIDEN: Can I put whoopee cushions under all the cushions before he gets here??
OBAMA: Joe, I'm on the phone.
BIDEN: muttering ... you didn't say not to.

(32,687 posts)All Americans can relate to Joe Biden, it's that simple. He unites us all - while Chump divides us and sets us against each other. I believe Joe Biden is getting great advice on his campaign strategies, including from PBO himself. I wish Obama could run again but he can't, and Biden is our best possible choice.
I'm with Joe!

(1,201 posts)I don't know what his plans are or if he stands for the Green New Deal etc. We are losing our planet as well as our democratic institutions. We need immediate bold new action to get off fossil fuels and combat climate change as well as wealth inequality. We need to stop putting kids in cages and treating refugees seeking asylum as terrorists and degenerates. I can't wait for the debates to start. Still, I hope we get rid of status quo don't rock the boat moderates who delay and stand in the way of progress and our progressive agenda. More unites us than divides us but we let 'labels' prevent us from our goals. Terms like 'liberal', 'socialism', 'Democrat', 'left', 'right' can be used to label progress that we must look deeper toward actions and issues. My question for Biden is can he change himself enough to be representative of the modern democratic party. FYI...Bernie won Pennsylvania and all polls showed he would have beaten Trump by far greater margins than Hillary yet the corporate media is out to take him out of the running. Watch if they try to take Warren out the same way then we will know if it's the policies or just personal toward Bernie as they both stand for the same policies.

(8,144 posts)How to address is the rub. Same for healthcare. And so for the party and for our potential voters. Every one need not commit to the same policy to solve a problem. And I am sorry, but the whole party is not new. The party is not radically transformed from its core values in 2016, pre Trump, by the fact that district elections in the midterm gave us some new faces, who represent a more diverse constituency. Certainly a good thing. Bold ideas a good thing.
Admirable Bernie supports policies regardless of proven and widespread popularity.
You can check out Bidens voting record online.
Consistent support for unions, civil rights, women, preserving Roe vs. Wade, yes initially Iraq war, then critic of
Challenges to his card carrying new progressive or 60s style progressive creds seem frivolous to me. We all know Biden is a middle of the road kind of Democrat, a moderate, but open I think to changing positions as he has shown. Hes not radical. Hes just Joe.
Like the majority of the party and of American voters.
