So what about the importance of not sounding scripted?

In the last few days I've shifted my position twice on the candidates. I shifted from planning to vote for Inslee to planning to vote for Buttigieg. And I've shifted from wanting Buttigieg to get the nomination to wanting Biden to get it (while still planning to vote for Buttigieg so he will be a very successful trail blazer.)

The most important thing is to win. And I'm thinking that sounding unscripted is a really important piece of that.

I shifted from Inslee to Buttigieg because, after latching on to Inslee after his unscripted sounding, inspiring appearance on Rachel, he'd lapsed into same-old, same-old on the CNN town hall.

I did not shift to Kamala Harris, although I was prepared to, because of her plastic, scripted performance on last night's CNN town hall.

Today I decided I wanted Biden to get the nomination because he is best positioned to win PA, MI, OH, WI and <I forget>, AND, he never sounds scripted (although there are times we wish he did...).

It dawned on me today why some (many) people found Hillary unbelievable. I, personally, LOVED Hillary. Everything she said sounded genuine. (I knew her when she was at Wellesley). But I realize now that in debates she presented like Kamala did the other night. She was careful to acknowledge the current audience's connection to the question. She displayed careful thinking. So people not inclined to perceive her as genuine could see that "scripted" quality as ungenuine.

I don't think people who sound scripted are not genuine. I would be happy to have a bunch of them as president. But I want to win!!!

How important do you think this is?

3. Good point. I wonder how long Buttigieg can keep this up. But Biden has managed. And...

2. I think Beto is the most genuine and authentic because he does not poll test

While everyone's stump speech is going to sound similar when they give it...how they answer questions matters. Part of the reason I am with Beto is how he answered questions in such an unscripted way.

Remember how he answered that NFL kneeling question?

7. Yep...and he campaigned on stuff like this and gun control in bright red Texas

And damn near beat Ted Cruz. He increased the youth turnout by 500% and flipped two reliably Republican House seats to Democrats and helped 17 African American women get elected as judges. He is the real deal and while people don't realize it quite yet...I am convinced he is the best to go against Trump.

Trump uses division, hate, race, immigration and the border to divide us. Beto is absolutely masterful on being able to UNITE people on those same issues by framing it just like he did in that video.

I actually think he is just waiting until Biden is finally in and the media blitz from that dies down. That's really smart to do because it will be closer to the first debate and he will have already built up a formidable grassroots organization to be able to support any surge from media presence. He already has volunteers out canvassing in every state but two. He even has people canvassing in American Samoa, lol. I really wish I knew more about that one!

He has a more conversational way of speaking that makes what he's saying more relatable. I fear Biden will stick his foot in his mouth as he often has. While I love Joe, he's got his problems. In 2004, I was about as excited about Kerry as the nominee as I am about Biden now, and that's not much.

O’Malley would have been a contender if it wasn’t for his delivery. There was nothing wrong with his word choice. His delivery was awful. What you are talking about can absolutely make or break a candidate. Even more than just the scripted aspect it’s about overall delivery. John Kerry never sounded scripted but his delivery was not good for the majority of people. He couldn’t deliver his words in a manner that wasn’t tailored toward intellectuals. I think Buttigieg has the smarts of Kerry with a delivery tailored toward every day Americans.

I had previously found Buttigieg refreshing and I switched my support to him last week (I think). However, he lost me in recent days with his answer on impeachment, and he lost me even more after I learned about the chief demotion scandal last night. I am not angry or against him but last night I lost my crush on him. That being said, he answers questions directly and I really appreciate that aspect of him.
