(1,954 posts)I've been impressed by Buttigieg and his supporters, and Biden's supporters here have proven to me at the very least that the man probably has one of the better if not the best chances of actually beating Trump. Arguments for the sake of arguments do nothing, but oftentimes there's good information lodged within them.

(3,433 posts)I supporter Sanders in 2016 voted for Clinton in the general. I am no longer a supporter and it's in large part of what I read here and I observed from supporters.
I am not rehashing the primary. I am just stating my history.

(17,600 posts)Behavior on DU could be trolls, or real people just appearing exaggerated due to the nature of a discussion board.
I saw people in real life act out the worst of what I saw on DU of a few Sanders supporters. Interestingly, I saw some nasty behavior by a few Clinton supporters here during that time - but saw no such thing from the Clinton supporters I knew in real life.
I think to some extent the behavior mapping from DU to real life mainly reinforced conclusions I made about the candidates' supporters and leadership.
I am hoping to stay out of the fray of b.s. this time and try to learn about issues here.

(4,858 posts)...I've had a candidate every election cycle since 1972. McGovern, Udall, Teddy, Fritz, Dukakis, Tsongas, Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Obama, Obama, Bernie. Only in 2016--last time--did I have to hesitate; usually, my gut knew who I favored. Not this time. I am genuinely undecided. There's one or two--no names--who I'm pretty sure I'm *not* for, though of course I'll support them against Trump. But I'm paying attention to the discussions here--and elsewhere, of course--more thoroughly than usual...

(37,648 posts)there are times that posters point out things I didn't know, and that matter. All that goes into my decision.
But I'm usually a late decider (except for Obama; he had me at hello my name is Barack Obama). If I decided earlier, I might change my mind based on what others say. But it's about information and facts. Not attempts at persuasiveness or browbeating.

(6,930 posts)another poster, therefore they do not like their choice. This cracks me up. How easy it would be to manipulate people like that here on du.
Its kind of childish, imo. A woman I used to encounter through work was a Hillary supporter just like me, but I never enjoyed interacting with this woman for various reasons. I cannot imagine that I would have changed my preference because of my dislike for that person. I really just cannot grasp that kind of thinking.

I thought Bernie was too old and had two other candidates in my top two. One has fallen because of their centrist views and the other because they are not getting any traction.
Reading posts here just reminded me that wishy washy stands are not acceptable. We need to be bold.

(884 posts)I'm a very facts and detail oriented person, so for me, it's all about convincing arguments of actual directly relevant merit. Right now, I'm still most supportive of Biden, on the basis of the known quantity and electoral prospects, but I could very much see myself getting behind Buttigieg, Harris, O'Rourke, Sanders, or Warren as things develop. I like all of them, but at the same time, I do also really want a strong woman on the ticket, yet I'm also mindful that that gender, while important, may not always be the best criteria. I supported Secretary Clinton in '08, but in hindsight, Obama was quite clearly a truly remarkable president, and I was just slow to recognize how true that turned out to be, in the primaries.
So in recognition of the fact that I am subject to overlooking things about which I may not know enough to make a thoroughly informed decision, I make a conscious effort to remain open to persuasion, as long as it's objective and fair.

(28,264 posts)Her appearance on Rachel's show tonight, where she articulated her principled support for impeachment hearings, mirrors my own feelings about matter. Particularly with the statute of limitations running on trump's obstruction actions (thanks again, Rachel).

I read words, not minds. The poster was clear. I was absolutely talking him (or her) at face value. Why assume otherwise?

I swore off Charlie Crist a long time ago. Still cant stand the guy. Because of some things I read from some very sensible people here I got over myself, donated to him, told everyone I knew to vote for him, and voted for him myself. He unseated a Republican. Thanks DU!

(1,736 posts)I also liked Martin O'Malley, but he didn't seem as well prepared when speaking as Clinton or Sanders. I hope he seems another office.
Inslee to me is the strongest liberal wing candidate, but it's hard to win a party nomination. We'll see what happens!

(4,558 posts)I was all in for Hillary for most of 2006/7 leading to the primary, but before election day in my state I did switch to Obama, and it was mostly due to what I saw here on him combined with what he said on the campaign.
In the early and mid part of that season, I didnt feel he had enough experience.
