Dear Mayor Pete or members of your hardworking staff......

You are probably aware of what I am posting but, just in case, I put it forward as a possible tool to embarrass the ignorant who are masquerading as Christians. They disrupt your rallies with their hatred and their ignorance. I hope they are ignorant and not motivated by even more contemptible impulses. Anyway, as for the "Sin of Sodom" we find several references to that in the Old Testament. Not one of them refers to homosexuality as we know it.

This passage in Ezekiel is particularly telling and those calling out to "Remember Sodom and Gomorrah" should read the entire 16th Chapter of Ezekiel and pay close attention. Here are the highlights. Remember....What was the sin of Sodom?

Ezekiel 16:1,2 The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, confront Jerusalem with her detestable practices

48 As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, your sister Sodom and her daughters never did what you and your daughters have done.
49“ ‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50 They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen. 51 Samaria did not commit half the sins you did. You have done more detestable things than they, and have made your sisters seem righteous by all these things you have done. 52 Bear your disgrace, for you have furnished some justification for your sisters. Because your sins were more vile than theirs, they appear more righteous than you. So then, be ashamed and bear your disgrace, for you have made your sisters appear righteous.
53“ ‘However, I will restore the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters and of Samaria and her daughters, and your fortunes along with them, 54 so that you may bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all you have done in giving them comfort. 55 And your sisters, Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, will return to what they were before; and you and your daughters will return to what you were before. 56 You would not even mention your sister Sodom in the day of your pride, 57 before your wickedness was uncovered. Even so, you are now scorned by the daughters of Edom and all her neighbors and the daughters of the Philistines—all those around you who despise you. 58 You will bear the consequences of your lewdness and your detestable practices, declares the Lord.

The shouts of the ignorant can often result in teachable moments. You are doing a great job. This might be of interest to you and to others who are confronted with this particular prejudice. I h ope someone from the Pete for President group gets hold of this. Thanks.

And, also to DUers who have absolutely no use for religion or the Bible. This is not meant to inflame your understandable beliefs. To those who are interested in such revelations, enjoy. What do y ou think?

Mayor Pete and others for his non-reason are supporting those (Republicans) who champion the true sin of Sodom, for the most part. People are often very sad in their error.

I was brought up in a household where God was the one who judged and he would do so in the end. It is a high standard to follow and most of us who believe that do often fail. It is still a solid goal. I'm only talking in reference to the concept of sinning. I believe that judgement in itself is a falls within the scope of sinning.

I recall the 'judge not, least thee be judged' quote. Once of most potent ones that I've always lived by. I also liked the remark 'it's above my pay grade'!!

the Guests of Lot. Possibly, also, make them slaves. Horrible crime to be so inhospitable in the Middle East. The story of the Priest and his concubine is almost identical. I think it is in Judges? Anyway, rape and murder was the issue not homosexuality. It is a complex issue but today's anti-gay religious types are going against historic trends. Early on in Christendom homosexuality did not carry the stigma or penalties that came much later. It is a very interesting study. And, yes, many of the Bible stories that are shared with children have some very dark endings that are left out. Daniel in the lions den is one and the "Fiery Furnace" is another. Rough times.
