Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI just switched from undecided to Kamala Harris
It boils down for me at this time... to the Kavanaugh Hearings. She stood up to a pack of bullies for what was right. I really liked the way she handled the situation. She's got the fire in her belly and is someone who will go after Trump and the Republicans.
We've got a pretty broad field of candidates....some great ones in ...and a handful of ones that aren't up to snuff to be polite about it. At this point in the game, I'm going with Kamala.

She's straight up with her answers.. no hem and hawing.. saying "it was taken out of context".

(195 posts)I certainly leaning towards Kamala. She brings experience, knowledge, savvy, diversity, heart and that "fire in the belly". Her sense of humor and being able to sidestep attacks would hold her in good stead.

(14,565 posts)She was hardly straight up when suddenly on the defensive about her "modern day lynching" comment regarding Smollett. Harris began the response by pausing and pretending she didn't know what the subject was. It was the definition of hemming and hawing. I'm not going to link to it but I've seen it all over the place on sports sites. Once the right wingers on those sites saw that clip they went straight to the attack because they sensed weakness.
I think Harris would make a great president. I'm not convinced she would fare well on defense during a long campaign.

(6,699 posts)Initially I was turned off with Gabbard with stuff I have heard through the media, but after watching her on The View with the rabid McGrumpy sperm attacking her, I bothered to hear her message, and I even listened to a half dozen other interviews with Van Jones, Jimmy Dore, Morning Joe..and several other media hosts....she is the real deal. Shes progressive and a NON-interventionist. Shes served voluntarily in Iraq for two tours, appreciates the sacrifice of our young military lives, their families, trillions in treasure and nations of dead, suffering and displaced peoples. She has the right ideas toward Venezuela and numerous other nations where corporate amuriKKKa has convinced the naive public that we send our troops and treasure in to help, but only to covet their resources and leave them in ruin after losing hundreds and thousands of young, willing military lambs to slaughter.
Nothing wrong with Harris, but keep an open mind and listen to an interview or two, and see what this woman has been doing in Congress since she arrived. She is valuable.
Too early to get fixed on any one...yet.

This is the woman that accepted an invitation by Steve Bannon to meet tЯump at Trump Tower so she could impress upon him that intervening in Syria could start a nuclear war.
Who exactly was she repressing at that meeting? What particular expertise was she bringing to the table? They thought it could be useful to them politically that what. Tulsi criticised Obama for not using the Rights expression Radical Islam
Hey Mr Trump, please dont start a nuclear war.

(6,699 posts)But I would say she has sufficient expertise when discussing getting involved in countries that pose no threat to the US.
I'd suggest you take a look at the videos involving her stance with Van Jones, Dole, and maybe even her appearance on The View.
Meeting with the orange orangutan jabba to caution him from getting involved in Syria may not be all bad. Obviously she failed in that attempt....no suprise, at fat ass listens to nobody.
When did she lecture Obama about "radical islam"? I'd like to review that info.
Not attacking your comment, but would appreciate a bit more info than what you presented.

(6,699 posts)I am still not dissuaded from supporting her. Yes, she met with the anti-Christ, Jabba the con artist. She met with Assad, and made some comments about him not being America's enemy. With explanations, she is correct, in my opinion. Her stance on non-intervention and regime change around the world are valuable, and I'm afraid that is prompting a lot of fear mongering regarding her views.
I would recommend you listen to her interviews with Jimmy Dore (
She explains her reasoning for leaving her position in the DNC, and I think there were millions of Americans who were also very upset with how DWS and the DNC handled their support for Bernie Sanders.
I read and listened to your material. I suggest you listen to these videos, and I'd be curious to hear your thoughts after you do.

(7,277 posts)For me its a matter of judgment. Leaving the DNC was her business. Numerous Democrats hitched their wagon to Sen Sanders in the primaries. Sanders dragged out a dead candidacy all the way to the convention. He alone owns that decision.
Meeting Trump and Assad is another matter. Yes she explains her reasoning ex post facto, but was it wise, or even commonsense at the time? If you IGNORE the politics you can argue the case, but everything concerning Trump and Assad is (highly) partisan. It was objectively bad politics and poor judgment. IMO.
More importantly, she came back with nothing in both cases. What was she expecting, who was she representing, what was the quid pro quo?
Trump meeting Kim Jung Un was a shabby publicity stunt. So were these outings. IMO.
I am not actually doubting her integrity. Tulsi is a sincere loose cannon.

(6,699 posts)My primary concern with Harris, which was the origin of this thread, is that she has a tendency to come off angry and hot. Maybe that serves a further purpose, but it also falls in line with her history as a prosecutor, where her reputation has some concerning outcomes.
I would back either. I don't think either are ready for the top seat, but they would definitely bring good ideas to the debate, and they could possibly serve as the VP candidate this time around. I'd really like to watch them both in the spotlight, and they are young enough, they certainly will be around the next time up.
I'm hoping VP Biden jumps in. I know he's in his 70's and youth will probably be turned off some with that factor. But the way he is able to work across the aisle, the way he articulates and tackles problems intelligently and more carefully at this stage of his life than when he was a young Senator, I think those are characteristics that the White House needs after this demolition derby we are living through today.
Thanks for the debate. I'm not sold on anyone at this point. I'll back whoever the candidates are on the Democratic ticket. I just look forward to a good debate of ideas, and I hope they don't open up the circular firing squad on each other along the way. I'm just as focused on the Senate, as without a majority there, we might well see another four years of obstruction, which this country and the world cannot afford.

Actually, I havent see enough anger in Harris for my liking. Im looking for steel. An aide describe her run as the Truth and Justice campaign. If the scandals surrounding the Trump Administration really blow up, thats exactly what the people will be looking for in 2020: Truth and Justice.
Obama does not do anger. Ive been frustrated over the years by his dictum, When they go low, we go high. Sometimes he didnt appear to defend himself.
Watching his Eulogy for McCain, I finally got it. The Golden Rule. Do unto others ... He is a man of deep faith, going so far as to turn the other cheek. Nobody could have shifted him. He lives Christianity IMO. The President sang Amazing Grace for all.
Dems can not afford to play softball with these criminals, but perhaps we dont have to go low. Justice. The sword of justice sweeping away the filthy weeds that have taken root in the executive branch.
Resignations not enough. Prosecution thats the stuff. Thats a Watergate era call to arms. Who better to answer the call than a politician prosecuting her case with a ready laugh and disarming smile. For the people.
Except from the McCain Eulogy:-
Roosevelt speaks of those who strive, who dare to do great things, who sometimes win and sometimes come up short but always relish a good fight. A contrast to those cold, timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat. Isn't that the spirit we celebrate this week? That striving to be better, to do better, worthy of the great inheritance that our founders bestowed. So much of our politics, our public life, our public discourse can seem small and mean and petty. Trafficking in bombastic manufactured outrage, it's politics that pretends to be brave and tough, but in fact is born of fear.
Trump may trade in fear, but his politics is born out of cruelty and malice. IMO

(2,412 posts)I think we should carefully sift through ideas and create a platform. This is more important than chosing a candidate. I think ideas are more important than personalities. While I am supporting another candidate, I am doing so only because I want to support their ideas and keep them talking about them. I am ready to support our final candidate but we need more sifting of ideas.
Chosing a personality at this point is a bit early.

I think we need to vet the candidates carefully this time. There's several in the pack who I have major concerns about and issues with and hope they drop out early for the sake of party unity. I'm not holding my breath on that happening though.

(6,709 posts)When Kamala Harris had a chance to go after one of the big boys--specifically Steve Mnuchin at OneWest Bank, for foreclosure fraud, she didn't do it. She has never said why, just that her office decided not to pursue it. I don't know if or how much she was involved in the decision.
But: in the light of banksters getting off scot free after the crisis, after seeing the likes of Manafort and tRump wandering around loose after lifetimes of unethical and criminal behavior, after seeing powerful men abuse multiple women with impunity for decades....all of these sorts of things, where DAs and AGs and USAs across the country turned a blind eye to the activities of those in the power structure, it makes me uneasy about her.
I want to know that crap is going to end, and I want someone who is not only "able" but willing to do it.

(58,785 posts)and very strongly for restoration of strong regulatory controls. We know that.
Let's face it, what people actually trying to work from within the centers of power do must constantly disappoint armchair analysts, who demolish all problems with a word and are always right, whether in hindsight or presciently before battle is engaged.
Whether one believes Harris should have moved against Mnuchin on priniciple alone if nothing else, the very weak civil enforcement action that was all the law allowed would in no way have satisfied anyone's desire to see him not get off "scot-free." Because he would. A minor nuisance for whatever firm of attorneys handles this kind of stuff in California to tend to.
That is why she says, and she certainly knows, we need big-time reforms. Of course all our liberal progressive candidates want big reforms also. Being a former AG may make it more personal for her than some...?

That said, there's so many in the running that I would canvass for, financially support to the best of my ability, phone bank for, and do everything I could to help get orange hitler out of office, and do so proudly and happily.
then there's a couple that I'd still support with my vote, but I do admit I'd have to hold my nose in doing so for.. Such as Gillibrand due to Frankengate. I will support her if it comes down to it, but I'll be holding my nose to do so.

(320 posts)Nope. It is WAY too soon for me. I want to see who else is going to run and I want to see what happens in the coming months. I am glad to see push back staff who work for Amy Klobachar. Warren has been hurt by her Native American claim. Then she was hurt more by how badly she handled it. Still, she is of the people and for the people, (though that last is Harris' theme). Harris seems capable. Bernie is saying the right things. I've ruled out Tulsi. I don't think she can be forgiven for her cowgirl visit to Syria and though she has apparently evolved, she was bad news for the LGBT Community. I was much put off by Cory Booker's horrible performance while questioning an appointee to a judgeship. All that fancy education and he was SO ill prepared that he made a fool of himself. Still, he remains an attractive candidate. I want to hear more from Beto O'Rourke and hope he enters the race. I really hope Joe Biden stays out, as Hillary Clinton is staying out. They have a lot to contribute but not as candidates, in my view. I've failed to discuss some candidates. That is because so far, they haven't stood out with screw ups. It is going to be entertaining.
