'Starting today, we're going to change the channel!' - Pete Buttigieg

I can’t get over how clever and how effective this analogy is. Unlike turn the corner, turn the page, start a new chapter, ‘change’ is there front and center.

And don’t tell me there wasn’t some thought given to kids asking their parents, to grand kids asking the same, to change the channel from Fox News. Today we’re going to change the channel - the power of suggestion and every reality TV’s Star’s nightmare.

‘Spring is coming America’ is a Games of Thrones riff that won’t last far into 2020, but Change the Chanel? It’s a keeper.

primary today, I would vote for:

I'm worried about her 'delivering an up to $500/month tax cut' for middle class Americans, paid for presumably by repealing the giant 2017 Republican tax scam for billionaires and corporations.

Specifically, my question to her would be to ask why she wants to shrink government even further with such a tax cut when the same result could be achieved on the other side of the equation by passing Warren's Accountable Capitalism Act, which would force C-Suite corporate officers to address the welfare of their workers and close the productivity/pay gap.

Sigh, I know I'm a wonk. But there it is. I'm not sure how strong she is on fiscal policy.

Also, on her site, I'm not seeing any plan for healthcare. Now, I WANT Medicare for all Americans, but I would be OK with fixing the ACA by forcing the mandate, forcing expansion of Medicaid, putting a public option in, and allowing the government to negotiate costs. And, again, Warren's Accountable Capitalism Act would force C-Suite corporate officers to consider the welfare of consumers concurrently with shareholder earnings, which, with government cost negotiations, would drive costs for drugs and insurance back down where they belong. You put the public option in, and you put the writing on the wall. Ten years and it would be all public, not tied to employment, and allow people to purchase supplemental insurance to cover any gaps. Much like what everyone else has.

But we're cool. Because the president isn't alone here - there's also Congress - and they must work together to achieve compromise in these things.

And, last thought - like Obama did, I'm sure she would surround herself with an A-team of excellent, knowledgeable, experienced people...unlike the guy in there now, who is running with his fourth string on sheer bombast.

Made me think of Brad Paisley's song. The message being things will work out great, just have hope

Lyrics

If I could write a letter to me
And send it back in time to myself at seventeen
First I'd prove it's me by saying
Look under your bed, there's a Skoal can and a Playboy
No one else would know you hid
And then I'd say I know it's tough
When you break up after seven months
And yeah I know you really liked her
And it just don't seem fair
But I'll I can say is pain like that is fast and it's rare

And oh, you got so much going for you
Going right
But I know at seventeen
It's hard to see past Friday night
She wasn't right for you
But still you feel like there's
A knife sticking out of your back
And you wondering if you'll survive
But you'll make it through this and you'll see
You're still around to write this letter to me

At the stop sign at Tomlinson and 8th
Always stop completely, don't just tap your brakes
And when you get a date with Bridget
Make sure the tank is full
On second thought forget it, that one turns out kinda cool
Each and every time you have a fight
Just assume you're wrong and Dad is right
And you should really thank Ms. Brinkman
She spent so much extra time
It like she sees the diamond underneath
And she's polishing you till you shine

And oh you got so much going for you
Going right
But I know at seventeen
It's hard to see past Friday night
Tonight's the bonfire rally
But you're staying home instead
Because if you fail Algebra
Mom and Dad will kill you dead
Trust me you'll squeak by and get a C
And you're still around to write this letter to me

You got so much up ahead
You'll make new friends
You should see your kids and wife
And I'd end by saying have no fear
These are nowhere near
The best years of your life

I guess I'll see you in the mirror
When you're a grown man
P.S. go hug Aunt Rita every chance you can

And oh you got so much going for you
Going right
But I know at seventeen
It's hard to see past Friday night
I wish you'd study Spanish
I wish you'd take a typing class
I wish you wouldn't worry, let it be
I'd say have a little faith and you'll see

If I could write a letter to me
To me

Other than tax cuts and bigotry, everything Reagan’s GOP stood for has been uprooted and lays dying. That is why Pete is talking about a blank page between eras. One possibility is the Democratic Party aiming to make a profound a change as the New Deal. Another he says is proto-fascism taking a firm hold of America’s neck.

when it wasn't on the album (not enough room). They only play it at live shows. When I saw it live in 2012 and 2013 it was very cool. It is one of my favorite songs for some reason and with the animation of the flowers it is even better.

realizing what a brilliant speaker he is, I hope that maybe the desire to "drink a beer with our candidate", will be replaced by a hope to have a serious and honest discussion with our candidate.

I think Pete has the "it" factor, in spades.

So, as a 67 year old male, gay, atheist, I changed from undecided to Pete!

If he is given the oxygen to breathe by the media, I think he just may be able to do it.

I also believe that he will counter turdface, when needed. We can't just dwell on tit for tat, but we must respond when tf goes so far beyond the pale...

For once in a long time, I am hopeful.

I watched Obama for the first time live at the Miami Auditorium. It was impressive! There were 6 Secret Service agents onstage, that gave me the impression maybe this guy might have a serious chance. I then asked is America ready for him? I was terrified that McCain put that MILF on the ticket to attract 45-55 y/o white Male voters. She opened her mouth, and I thanked G-d he put that MILF on the ticket. Now I look at mayor Pete, and I wonder..... He represents a Democratic party with a lot of firsts. I want to see an America that is maturing but I still that same block of voters 45-55 WM voters scare me. I hope that we can get the Working class message to them again.

I don’t know if you’re allowed to use clips from Faux news without permission, but imagine a quick montage of some of the most hateful rhetoric from the scumbags on Fox, maybe interspersed with dRumps most vile comments, then <click> “Time to change the channel; is THIS the best we can be, America...” etc. etc. Make it literal; time to turn off the hate spewing from Fox Spews. And transition to a positive view for the future. Love WILL conquer hate, I have to believe that.
