Democratic Primaries

Long before any votes are cast for president, some Democratic thought leaders have made up their minds about at least one thing. Bernie Sanders is too risky to be the partys nominee. And this existential fear of the so-called far left is already producing questionable choices, not the least of which is a preference by most other candidates and officials to avoid a serious discussion of socialism.
Instead, Democratic nominees tend to reinforce the rights red scare tactics by defensively declaring themselves capitalists, or at least deep socialist skeptics. It can never work, not in Americas heartland, most appear to agree, unfortunately neglecting to mention Social Security, Medicare and other democratic socialist policies that have operated successfully for decades, in the U.S. and elsewhere.
A notable exception is Pete Buttigieg, the Indiana mayor also running for president. In a high school essay he once praised Sanders for his courage in describing himself as a socialist. In fact, it won him the 2000 Profile in Courage Essay Contest, sponsored by the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston.
At the time, most Democrats even shied away from the word liberal as if it was a horrid accusation, Buttigieg wrote. Even though he has lived through a time in which an admitted socialist could not act in a film, let alone hold a congressional seat, Sanders is not afraid to be candid about his political persuasion.

(1,532 posts)No "plot" is needed to stop Bernie Sanders. He has zero chance of winning.
He gets far more press than other candidates because he grabs every event/festival/gathering/celebration to do photo ops. It is seen as pandering.
He will go to an LGBTQ rally, then Liberty U the next day, then a bar mitzvah followed by Eid celebrations, then a civil rights memorial followed by a southern "heritage" gathering. It shows that he has no core convictions other than railing against (millionaires) billionaires and corporations while keeping his name in the public eye.
In the 2016 cycle, he went on one or more Sunday shows some 50+ times to grab the limelight.
As an example, look at DU. He has 8% support but he gets some 60% of the OPs because the faithful think that pushing Bernie ad nauseum will somehow change minds.

(1,532 posts)Greg Guma is a socialist and s Sanders' sycophant.
He also left NYC for Vermont about the same time Sanders did and since then has written a lot of pro-Sanders articles.
That piece is worthless.

I supported Bernie up until the Convention last time and then voted for HRC. I also appreciate the many efforts that Bernie has made through the years to bring the issues of the working class to the forefront. At present I prefer the policies of Andrew Yang as I believe he builds on the ideas of Bernie Sanders but looks at the coming AI issues in greater depth.
