(39,375 posts)PRIVATIZING: Bush privatized various state services, including foster care, adoption services, legal representation for death row prisoners, human resources, state purchasing and state parks. He moved Medicaid recipients into private managed-care plans.
GOVERNMENT WORKFORCE: Bush trimmed 13,000 positions from government agencies.
AFFIRMATIVE ACTION: By executive order, he ended affirmative action in state hiring and contracting and worked with the Board of Regents to end it in university admissions in Florida.
GUNS: He signed the nation's first "stand your ground" legislation. The law, pushed by the National Rifle Association, allows deadly force for self-defense. Bush had an A+ rating from the NRA.
TEACHERS UNIONS: Bush backers say he was one of the original state executives to take on teacher unions, years before Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker gained attention for battling government labor unions. Bush established the country's first statewide voucher program for K-12 education, broadened school choice options, expanded charter schools and instituted academic standards.

(22,540 posts)by a woman whose husband was killed in a train wreck. Just reading the rigamarole involved in the mess that is train company accountability is an eye opener. So, this lady sued, won, appeal, over and over in the Florida court system. Her final judgment was for $50M in a case that screamed neglect. So. Jeb set a limit on how much private citizens could sue a company, $50M I think. I thought that was pretty unfair of him. This woman and people in general take years to prepare a case, then years for it to wend its way through the system. He did it to protect business, not people. Anyway, that's what I learned of his values.

(42,334 posts)JEB! started the process to destroy public education in this state. Not to mention the environment, healthcare, etc.
He also actively suppressed the vote in 2000 to pave the way for idiot brother in the WH.
