Bernie Sanders still dominates 2020 fundraising - April 10, 2019
By Fredreka Schouten Updated 4:03 PM ET, Wed April 10, 2019
WASHINGTON (CNN)Bernie Sanders, a one-time political insurgent, has cemented his role as the fundraising frontrunner of the 2020 Democratic field -- as many of his rivals report pulling in just a fraction of the $18.2 million the Vermont senator collected during the first 41 days of his presidential campaign.
The latest: Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who announced Wednesday that she had collected $6 million during the first quarter -- about a third of Sanders' haul, despite entering the race about seven weeks earlier than he did.
In all, four candidates outraised Warren, including California Sen. Kamala Harris, former Texas congressman Beto O'Rourke, and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg -- a relative unknown before this year.
Sanders also has another big advantage: a $28 million war chest to spend for the long presidential battle.
