Now that everything has settled down after super Tuesday

I'm starting to feel a little deflated. I have watched every democratic debate since when they had so many excellent candidates they had to hold them over 2 nights. Dont get me wrong, I like Joe Biden, but I think that he and Bernie Sanders are too old. Its impossible to imagine that either one of them will see out 8 years, which puts the democratic party through another series of primaries in 4 years time.

I would like to see the party put an age limit on presidential candidates.

Its a shame that money controls the length of time you can stay in the race. Now we're down to 2 old men representing the democrats and 1 old man representing the republicans.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

How did we get from a talented, diverse group of people down to these two old men? I mean, really!

Of course, the ones who've dropped out have broken new ground and some of them will be back.

They've introduced some new ideas and it's been great watching them jostle and argue among themselves.

Here's to their futures..........and ours!

We may only need to wait 4 more years before we see some of those discarded great contenders back again. I was thinking of you during the California primary. I imagine you either voted for Joe, or voted early for Buttigieg.

I had no idea that Pete was going to drop out, but even if I had known, I would still have voted for Pete.

I am part of a local group for Pete and I've been sending donations for months. To vote for anyone else would have been a complete betrayal of what Pete stood for, and for what I believed.

I hope/think you may be right about having only to wait four years for him to run again. I'll still be alive! (I'll be nearly 80!)

We may see Pete play a role as veep or secretary of state. Speaking so many languages, he would be ideal for the role. It would give him a bigger profile so as to prepare for his next run.

And that makes me glad.

And eventually the Republican strategy of choosing to be the party of white evangelicals is going to crash and burn. Maybe this year.

They had a chance after Obama won in 2012 to moderate their policies to appeal to a more moderate electorate but the tea party had too much of a hold. It’s going to take a decade or so but they are in a demographic cul-de-sac. And I’m not talking just about people of color. Young people are rejecting evangelicals rapidly. Already we have more non-religious than evangelicals. It’s only going to get worse for them.

She herself was confirmed easily in the early 90's because she was replacing a liberal justice. But flipping Scalia's seat even to a moderate was what McConnell was desperate to stop.

That said, once he got away with blocking Garland who knows if he'll now pull the same stunt even when liberal justices retire?

I see Biden handing off a lot to VP. And how I ma looking at it is Biden won't stay past four years and hand off to the VP. He will get the Republicans that can't stomach Trump. Tighten up ACA again, and if we have House and senate move forward on that. Nothing shattering, but fixin'.

"The veep role has never been more important."

I'm torn, not about which Democratic woman would make the best VP, but about who will make our ticket the strongest. Everyone of our former presidential candidates (well, except for Tulsi Gabbard) would be a great VP pick. I'm now thinking about which one will bring in the most votes.

tonight I went to a symphony concert and the guest conductor was 92 years old! (distinguished Swedish conductor Herbert Bromfeldt.) He stood on the podium and brilliantly conducted the orchestra for an hour and a half ... without using a score.

Okay, I realize that this is freakishly unusual. I still wish our candidates were not so old, but the people have spoken, and these are the guys (emphasis on guys) that we have to work with when we vote in the upcoming contests. Let’s make lemonade, and try not to be ageist. (It was equally ageist to continually call Mayor Pete too young.)

He didn't get the bounce he otherwise would have out of Iowa due to the problems with counting, and then Klobuchar's strong debate performance in New Hampshire probably cost him an upset victory in that state.

I wish he had at least stayed in until Super Tuesday, though I understand why he dropped out when he did.

I haven't decided who I'm voting for but I'm not thrilled with either choice. It's sad that we started out with such a diverse field and ended up with two old white guys.

I don't agree about putting an age limit on who can run, though. That would run counter to our values as a party. Democrats are the ones who fought for passage of the ADEA that prohibits most employers from doing exactly what you are advocating.

OTOH, I think the party should take a hard look at whether anything can be changed going forward to avoid a repeat of what happened this year, with so many good candidates having to drop out before the first votes were cast. Maybe the early debate rules were too restrictive, or maybe not restrictive enough? I wasn't paying that much attention last year so I can't say.

Having more states go first would also be a big help, IMO. Maybe group the states into regions that take turns going first.
