Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIt appears that all ballots are counted in California
unless I am reading the data wrong. 5,710,823 voted. The last counties to finish today were Glenn, Inyo, Los Angeles, Marin, Orange, San Diego, Santa Clara, Sierra, Siskiyou, Tulare, and Tuolumne.

(6,544 posts)per wikipedia: In February 2019, California had 19,978,449 registered voters, comprising 79.09% of its total eligible voters. Of those registered voters, 8,612,368 (43.11 percent) were registered Democrats, and 4,709,851 (23.57 percent) were Republicans.
The rest presumably are registered independents or other (libertarian for example) parties. So, almost 66% of registered D voters ain't bad. If we could get that across the country, we'd likely be in a lot better condition.

(31,261 posts)ballots on hand and more arriving. It would not surprise me if Biden pulls out a small victory in California. We are likely to know the result from Michigan before the final one from California. If Biden wins Michigan and pulls even in California on the same day, is there a rationale for Sanders to continue given that March 17 and 24 are shaping up to be disastrous for him?

(50,559 posts)...and Sanders stayed in the race until the convention, hoping to flip enough superdelegates to his side on the first ballot to take the nomination away from her.

(25,471 posts)What that means is that they've received at least partial data from 87% of precincts. It has nothing to do with the total vote.
Actual count is at 58% of the estimated total.

(46,192 posts)First, California has only tallied/counted 3,238,767
There are 5,710,823 ballots SO FAR. They are still going through and verifying the mail in ballots that are STILL COMING IN (only need an election day postmark). If they haven't gotten to a ballot (they haven't gotten to mine yet, I checked), it's not among that 5.7 million. That number will grow.
AND THEN...there are the provisional ballots. Those have to be verified, most of them will be, and then they will be counted and then that number will grow again. Sometimes LA county has hundreds of thousands of provisionals.
The result you see right now Bernie 33.6% and Joe 25.2%, that's based on 3,238,767 ballots, we KNOW we have at least 2.5 million more to count and we know there are ballots beyond those too. What is tallied is probably a little more than half the votes.
California takes one month to certify its results, which means COUNTING THEM first.
