Elizabeth Warren for VP!

She would be a great “attack dog” and would shred Pence OR Haley on the debate stage, in addition to all of her other qualifications.

If I were to vote in a presidential

How Democrats could work around a Warren vacancy
Yet there is a possible workaround in Massachusetts that could shorten the window for a Republican appointment and a special election if Warren becomes president.

Under state law, an outgoing senator could file a letter of resignation, triggering the 145- to 160-day period to hold a special election — but not make the resignation effective until a later date.

So Warren could file that letter the day after Election Day — or even earlier during the general-election campaign — to expedite the date of the special election and minimize the time of any Republican replacement.

This scenario was floated when Warren was a vice presidential possibility for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Clinton ended up picking Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., as her running mate.

The current Rethug majority would rule against the Biden/Obama ticket - and you can bet they'd do it just days before the election, to make sure Democrats can't react accordingly.

They would of course make the ruling a one-off - à la Bush v. Gore.

AA voters did help Biden in the southern states. But without Amy and Pete dropping out, Sanders would be far ahead today. Biden would be trying to figure out how to catch up. Amy delivered him Minnesota, and they helped him in getting larger margins in all states, including CA, TX, MA and the like.

Biden needs AA voters. But he has them, and the way to repay them is to enact policies that help them. Not tokenism.

Biden is also trying to win a general election. He has to win white suburban women in the Midwest. Amy speaks to these moderate women.

We also need a VP who is ready on day one. I’m sorry, but many of the AA picks being floated don’t have the necessary national experience.

Electing a qualified woman as VP would be a historic achievement. But what absolutely positively should not happen is picking a less qualified woman on the basis of skin color.

Harris is much better suited to be AG. But she is qualified to be VP.

I think Amy helps the ticket better with the independents and moderate republicans we need to win in November. The AA base is already going to stand behind Biden.

Pelosi said it best. You don’t pick Nancy because she’s a woman, you pick her because she would best for the job.

22. This is not tokenism, whatever you may think
Fri Mar 6, 2020, 12:24 AM
Mar 2020

If you think that, then your issue is with you, not me.

None of the people I've suggested are in any way unqualified. I personally think our government needs to have a MUCH higher proportion of anything other than old, white guys in it. In fact, I've repeatedly stated before something to the effect that grey hair, white skin and a dick are my first criteria for de-selecting that candidate, lol. I am an old white guy. Sorry, but we have seriously fucked things up. Others my age will try to avoid taking responsibility, but I will not. However, we don't have that option anymore.

The VP, by design, does not have specific roles, and as such is an excellent platform to provide that experience and platform to talented people, those fully capable of the role, who would not otherwise gain national experience. And frankly, beyond Biden, not a single person in the race has a clue as to what a President does, so none of them are any more or less ready to "do the job" (presumably as President) on Day 1. Not a single one. No (sane) President has ever said that they were prepared for what hit them when they took office. And, TBH, I'm not sure I want life-long politicians cluttering up the White House, in any case. Don't we have enough of that already?

I actually think Amy belongs in the Senate where she is now, because we need someone with the ability to bring the Brett Kavanaughs of the world to tears, as she aptly did. To me, the VP, despite its title, is in effect a demotion for a Senator in many ways, since there is no real role for them, beyond what the President tells them to do. They can't create legislation, they can't confirm justices, they can't approve spending, and on and on. However, I fully support Pete, Amy and anyone else, OF ANY STATURE, to help our country by taking any role they need to fill in the White House.

To ignore qualified, talented people, simply because they are unknown and black, is worse than any tokenism argument I can think of.

In any case, I think we are really in "violent agreement" here, arguing details about issues we both basically agree on.

Fri Mar 6, 2020, 12:34 AM
Mar 2020

One, be the top surrogate for the president. That’s to win the election and during the administration.

Two, be absolutely 100% ready to take over day 1.

Sarah Palin was beloved by rethugs. Excited their base like no other. But she was not ready to be President. Not even close.

I hope Biden picks a lot of qualified people for his cabinet. They can be women or men. But pick the best people qualified for the job.

Exciting the base is *not* a consideration for these qualifications. Our base is going to crawl over broken glass to get rid of Trump. But they are not enough.

This is going to be a close election. Very close. And we need to understand that, and pick the most qualified person that will speak to the moderate suburban women in the Midwest that we need to win, just like in 2018. That’s Amy.

although she would be fine in that role, also. I just think there are better roles for her.

I would hardly compare any of the women I selected to Sarah Palin. To suggest that is an insult to all three. For example, Val wasn't picked to be impeachment manager because she wore pretty shoes that day. C'mon

In any case, the presidential candidate who wins will make the decision
