Pelosi says 'element of misogyny' undermines women like Warren

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday that an “element of misogyny” undermines female presidential candidates following Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-Mass.) withdrawal from the 2020 race.

“I so wish that we had a woman president of the United States, and we came so close to doing that,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I do think there’s a certain element of misogyny.”

“Every time I get introduced as the most powerful woman, I almost cry, because I wish that were not true,” she added.

The first female Speaker said she believes that some of the sexist bias that women face is subconscious on the part of others.

“Many of them will tell you, they have a strong mom, they have strong sisters,” she said. “But … they have their own insecurities, I guess you would say.”

However, Pelosi added, “I think the American people are ready” for a woman president.

“I never thought we would have a woman Speaker of the House before a woman president, because if you want to talk about tradition or whatever that is, this is a marble ceiling. It's not a glass ceiling,” she said.

are in any way misogyny. Timing of the primary is basically the message.

Plenty of misogyny to be found, right here on this site.

Posts about women’s voices sounding shrill or teacher-like, posts about what women wear, posts about who is married to whom and how good they look as a couple, posts about women’s looks...god I could go on and on and on.

very liberal. I have heard statements from them like "she is the token female leader", or if the woman is attractive "I wonder who she slept with?" It is disgraceful.

Certainly are and it has been effectively proven if not for a corrupt GOP candidate, corrupt GOP party and some Russians.

I have no doubt the 'element of misogyny' hampers every female candidate just as I have no doubt racism hampers every non-white candidate and non-Christians get hampered by religious bias, etc.

Unfortunately today, those kinds of candidates have to be that much better to overcome that handicap. Hopefully, this will improve as time goes on.

We let them them down. Democrats focused on 2 older white guys...1 that's not a Democrat unless he's running for POTUS...and will be an Independent again 5 seconds after VP Biden beats him.
I was all Amy from day 1...and I haven't updated my choice since she dropped out because ....it doesn't matter why.
I'll follow her endorsement...because I respect her immensely.
