Less than 60 percent (or maybe less) of the California vote has been tabulated

Some Bernie supporters are complaining that the media isn't reporting that Bernie scored a big victory over Biden in California, attributing it to big "corporate media" bias.

But the reason that the media is holding back on quantifying the outcome of the California primary is that only around 60 percent, at most, of the votes have been tabulated. It's probably close to 50 percent.

California has a particularly quirky system for receiving, counting, and reporting votes. Votes cast by mail have in many many instances, not even been received yet. When California reports that X percent of precincts have reported, it only means that X percent of precincts have "partially" reported.

Here are some numbers: in 2016, over 5.1 million ballots were cast in the California Democratic primary. Thus far, the tabulated number of votes in California is slightly under 3 million (or around 58 percent). Turnout was up everywhere on Super Tuesday. There is no way it dropped by 2 million votes in California.

Or just consider the following: in 2016, Sanders got 2.38 million votes in the California primary. Thus far, he is reported to have slightly over 1 million votes. Again, does anyone really think his vote total dropped by more than 1 million?

The votes are still be received and counted. While I expect Sanders will get more votes than Biden, the margin is far from being determined.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

I delivered my ballot in the ballot box in the Bay Area on Monday, and I was confident that these would have been counted.

I cannot understand why it takes so long here. A day or so, fine. But this seems a lot.

Anyways, it was truly a SUPER TUESDAY! Am having a SUPER WEDNESDAY too!

You had to post your ballot by election day (the 3rd), and the USPS has to deliver it by the 6th in order for it to be counted.

I know many people who were waiting for the SC primary and aftermath/drop-outs before voting. I expect a great number of late-deciding voters still have ballots in the mail system.

but from today's LA Times:

&quot L.A.)County election officials said that a wave of vote-by-mail ballots left at vote centers and still arriving by mail contributed to the number of untallied votes.

The county registrar’s office said it had counted 1,294,610 votes as of Thursday evening. It estimated another 802,380 ballots remained to be counted, though that number could grow. The county will accept mailed ballots through Friday evening, as long as they were postmarked by election day."

This is how they verify all ballots. Many people used mail-ins but dropped them off in person at the polls. I do this and I have spoken with others who do the same thing in CA. Be patient people.

I have heard many people on both CNN and MSNBC explaining that CA would take a while. If people choose not to listen or take them seriously, tough! I even wrote posts here on DU and said that it will take a while during the past week.
