Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWow, so Bloomberg is sinking like a rock. What are the main things people here don't like about him?
While my choice is Biden over Bloomy, I am surprised he didn't do better yesterday. I think one major thing Bloomy has going for him is that he is like the anti-Trump rich guy, and Trump hates him on a personal level and I think he would actually have a great chance of getting many Trump voters to switch over to him from Trump. My wife just thinks he is "another rich a$$hole" though and doesn't want to vote for another billionaire.
I think getting voters is the key here...Biden, Warren, Sanders...they are all full on Dem and need to rely on getting Dems to the polls and increasing voter turnout. Bloomy actually has the best chance to get Trump voters to switch over to him because he appeals to that rich a$$hole voter block that are slowly turning on Trump.

(39,377 posts)His second debate, where his financial support for Toomey and Graham was pointed out, wasnt much better. After that, Clyburn, who was considering endorsing him, got behind Biden. The End.

(102,343 posts)seep out from time to time, especially with respect to the social safety net and economic inequality. He may have evolved on women's issues, but it seems apparent he still harbors some difficulties in that area. Those men who still believe in their hearts that they as men are superior to women have a hard time ever hiding it.

(7,376 posts)Well, five anyway...
1) He's really an old school Republican
2) Stop and Frisk
3) He's arrogant and obnoxious
4) Seems like the kind of guy who would refer to women as "dames."
5) No platform at all, really.

(2,021 posts)1) Arrogant billionaire openly trying to buy an election.
2) Shameful interaction with women.
3) Stop & Frisk (and related policy).
4) Recent former Republican who has changed party affiliations multiple times as convenience suited. Was the darling of Rudy Giuliani, endorsed Dubya...
5) Best articulable platform is beat Trump, and is against things that people need like M4A.
6) Incredibly underqualified to take on the highest national office - no governmental experience beyond being Mayor of New York.
7) Oversaw a surveillance program that spied on Muslims after 9/11 with no suspicion whatsoever (strike 2 on racial profiling).
8) Just like Putin (and like his protege Trump is hinting he will attempt), finagled his way to busting term limits to stay in office, including through offering an influential board seat and possibly other inducements to NY city council members.
And these are just the highlights.

(13,390 posts)The 94 crime bill and s&f perpetuated white supremacy and decimated numerous lives. Neither has fully owned up to their participation and are exploiting the political acuity of Black voters to advance their own privilege.

My daughter would say she just didn't "trust" the guy. I felt differently. I thought Bloomberg would be the most trustworthy candidate because there's no way he could be bought.
My big objection to Bloomberg is that he's as boring as a box of rocks. He didn't generate "enthusiasm" in me the way Bernie did.
This year, however, the party is taking the safe route. Joe's not that exciting, either, but he can beat Trump, and that's enough. Of course, I think that Bloomberg or Sanders could beat Trump, as well, so there's that.

(8,059 posts)He didn't have a chance to overcome the ups and downs that all candidates go through during a long primary season, wherein you tend to forget their initial downsides and screwups. He wasn't experienced at debates, and was being vetted (negative stuff, as all candidates go through) as voting was already underway. Time was not on his side. Had he gotten in sooner, he may have done better, but I don't think he really wanted to run against Biden until Biden started stumbling.

Kashkakat v.2.0
(1,752 posts)president, or nothing, is offensive. These guys apparently think that starting out as a state rep or something and working your way up is for losers and schmucks.
The fact that he's a billionair isn't the problem. The problem is he's a billionair with an offensive, entitled attitude.
