"SNIP......
Joe Biden told CNN that he would fight for the presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee in July if Bernie Sanders leads in the delegate count but does not have at least 1,991 pledged delegates, a number that constitutes a majority.
Said Biden: The rules have been set. You dont change the rules in the middle of the game.
......SNIP"

He never would say, "You don't change the rules in the middle of the game." You are an election cycle short with your question, but thank you for asking.

(58,785 posts)he's not a bad guy. In fact, he and Sanders agrees strongly about how awful Democrats are, and they both say so often. Maybe I shouldn't take their insults and lies as anything but well meaning, though. After all, maybe they're just very sincere and don't know they're lies.
Have a nice evening.

(58,785 posts)dirty methods in pursuit of power and who compete with each other for many of the same followers I'd cross the street to avoid being associated with.
But certainly, even if Trump doesn't actually know what it is to be a good person, Sanders is absolutely certain he is. I don't doubt for a minute the sincerity of their self evaluations and that both are completely lacking in doubt about those. Or seemingly anything else.
Sorry, Applegrove. Enough of that. I understand that some take Sanders at his own evaluation and need further experience to look beyond. I already did that long ago, though. Sanders didn't meet my standards in any way even before he helped turn the nation over to the Republicans to destroy our progressive government, there being too little difference to matter between Republicans and Democrats. Sanders has no doubt about the righteousness of his actions, no dissonance disturbs him, and no guilt.
And that is a huge problem. Fact is, charismatic populist leaders who use dishonest "I alone can fix it" authoritarian deliveries to surround themselves with not just innocent believers but unsavory characters eager to destroy our institutions don't just repel me, they make me look for something to stomp them with before it's too late.

(118,659 posts)Trump wants to take the US to become like Saudi Arabia or Mexico or India (alot of poor, a few rich and rampant corruption that results). To equate them diminishes how hortible the Trump WH has been. I guess we are just not going to agree. I'm for Biden by the way. He said at the last debate that Bernie was honest. I'm going with Biden on this issue.

(4,353 posts)Trump also does this. Why is the Bernie campaign following the same playbook as Trump? It's almost as if they are coordinating with each other and both want the Democratic Party destroyed, isn't it? I wonder who that would help?

Party opposition first before they can achieve their very different goals. After all, populist movements are a tried and true means for taking down even healthy, generally popular governments. Like ours. So even though deadly enemies in the end, they're all using the same ruthless populist playbook, undermining confidence in government, reinforcing each others' anti-Democratic messaging, and of course for Russia and Republicans especially busily working to subvert our primary and general elections. We're already seeing the anxiety-producing chaos Russia promised to create around this existential election.
So, a symbiotic relationship and not a new one. Neither the Republicans or Russia could have defeated us in 2016 on their own, and Sanders would have developed a far smaller following on his own, but united and benefiting from each others' efforts they stand.
Sanders' innocent followers, especially, need to understand who's dominating and defining their movement. It's not them and not idealism or healthcare. It's Sanders class-warfare brand of populism and those it's drawing, most of whom are at least somewhat socially conservative and aggressively antagonistic toward any not with them. Most of those who respond to his and Trump's, and Russia's, hostile populist messaging are actually willing to support either. That Trump is going fascist and Sanders socialist (and that Russia has weaponized them both) is strikingly unimportant to these populists, as evidenced by those who wore a "progressives" label in the primary then voted for Trump. It's not ideology or progressive goals for that kind; it's the opportunity to smash, and both Trump and Sanders have created destructive "anti-establishment" mobs to join. And they know Russia's their ally.
Btw, our intelligence services say Russia's plan for them is to unite both dangerous movements under one leader. Whether the voters or Russia eventually took one of the competing leaders out, Russia's plan is that populists would align behind the remaining "strongman" to finish the destruction of the world's only remaining superpower.
The playbook.
Of course, we Democrats have our own playbook in our constitution and rules of law, and an election we can use to put an end to this plotting and turn our government to repairing and building our nation to serve the people as it's supposed to. And put Russia back in its box. As for the populists and extremists who appear in bad times, wellbeing is like light is to vampires.

(2,470 posts)It might be an argument for why you'll be the better nominee but that depends on a number of factors. I see no debate here. Either get the majority as the rules require, or be ready to argue why you'd be the best nominee and face the superdelegates as the rules require.
And Bernie played the central role in writing these damn rules by the way after 2016.
