Sanders overtakes Warren in her home state, poll shows

Bernie Sanders has leapfrogged Elizabeth Warren in her home state, according to a poll released Friday, days before the Massachusetts Democratic primary.

In the poll by WBUR, NPR's Boston affiliate, Sanders got 25 percent of support from the state's Democrats, while Warren, who has represented the state in the Senate since 2013, got 17 percent.

Massachusetts is one of 14 states holding primaries on Tuesday.

Warren finished third in Iowa, and fourth in New Hampshire and Nevada. And in South Carolina, which holds its primary on Saturday, she is trailing four other candidates, according to RealClearPolitics' polling average.

If Warren ends up losing her home state to Sanders — who has emerged as the front-runner in the race for the Democratic nomination — it would increase pressure on her to exit the race.

2. If that's the case, it's hard to see a path to victory for her...her home state no less.

Then they will be forced to compromise. Warren is the perfect candidate to do so imo.

ideology...you would need a more moderate compromise...but I predict that Biden beats Sanders and we hear the same sort of nonsense about making Sanders the nominee which won't happen. And Biden wins the nomination and the presidency.

10. Well it would have to be someone who's to the left of Biden, but to the right of Bernie

Only Warren really fits that bill as a compromise.

...if Warren can get enough delegates to be a kingmaker. She could give her delegates to one of the candidates in exchange for a major spot in the administration (VP, Secretary of State, Secretary of Treasury).

12. That's because of the large overlap between Sanders' and Warren's supporters

Sanders is on the upswing and that is costing Warren votes everywhere. I'm guessing about 50% of Warren's earlier support (when she was leading) has switched to Bernie, especially among younger supporters. Would be interesting to see if polls bear this out.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
