Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI hate to see what is happening to Joe Biden. It is the same kind of eliminating
one of the Democrats good candidates that was done to Howard Dean: Make them look erratic. Media blows it up and the uninformed jump on the bandwagon. I still stand with Joe Biden!

taken off big time. It's strange how things take off, or don't... the Anita Hill thing (which I consider important to consider) went nowhere, while the "handsy-touchy" Biden story is everywhere. And, we all knew that about him... AND, it's not sexual... Also, while Trump says 100 stupid things every time he opens his mouth, this "wind causes cancer!" thing is also all over social media. I guess we've got to predict what causes the public to "go for it" and be strategic. Partly, that's how the Russians helped The Donald.

and the subtext to all this "paternalism and sexism" is that he's too old - from a bygone era. He's played into this, I think, with his folksy humor at that conference, recently... I think the Anita Hill issue is fair... but every candidate is going to have weak areas and I'm not looking for perfect. I have always thought Biden would not do well in the primary contest. Maybe I'm wrong, as he does look good in the polls, this time... we'll see, I suppose... His percentage, here, has gone up. I hope he gets through this with a reputation for his good qualities and accomplishments.

(37,364 posts)It does. By the freight loads. It is not a magical, enlightened time we live in. "Old white guys" aren't the only ones standing in the way of women's equality, or equality perod. Quite a few young ones have been trained to step a new generation up to grab onto whatever vehicle for they can to perpetuate their prejudices.
Biden doesn't worry me because I think he is willing to listen, and change. I'm much more concerned about those Trump has let crawl out from under the rocks who would harm without thought of mercy. The one's who think trafficking children for pedophiles is just fine. The ones who corral people in cages where we know young people are raped and assaulted by caretakers. The ones who consider that women were "created" as lesser than man and for his pleasure or as brood mares.
Biden has stated that he will not impose his church's doctrine on others. I believe he is a man of his word.

(12,344 posts)Bill Clinton had a war room to immediately respond to negative stories in the media.
Klobuchar had some could quick comebacks to the attacks on her.
Biden seems to have respond slowly and doesn't have a disciplined communication strategy. His video response was good, but hastily put together and no follow through.
He should change the subject. He could announce his candidacy now, or put out a policy statement.

(28,820 posts)Its in public, in front of cameras.
Not in the hall, not in the green room, not in his hotel room.
Strong Democratic women who have been speaking against this stuff for years, are unable to turn to someone in public and say politely, Please dont. ?
Why? Because Joe would say, Hell no, baby..? Take the benefit of having Joe stump for you, then years later saying you were uncomfortable.
Its the Franken Railroad all over.
It does remind me of Gillibrand dissing Clintons after they helped elect her.
Very poor form indeed.

(12,165 posts)Makes me sick to my stomach, actually. He's a good person, and hasn't abused anyone. He's guilty of making a couple of people uncomfortable, but who hasn't made someone uncomfortable?
I have the gay accent... that makes some people uncomfortable. My old co-worker was super-huggy with everyone, and I'm sure she's made people uncomfortable. My neighbor gave a shifty look toward my dog as we walked by because his bladder made her uncomfortable.
