Congratulations to our presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden!
How Bernie Sanders Is Making Inroads in the Preppy Bastions of the Upper East Side
If you had told me there would be a gathering of Bernie Sanders supporters in the back room of Dorrians, I would have laughed the weary laugh that accompanies the 2020 election cycle and assumed you were joking. Dear reader, I am not joking.
After attending a Central Park Conservancy skate night at Wollman Rink on February 11th, my friends and I decided we needed something a little stiffer than the two paltry wine pours our drink tickets allotted us. We headed uptown to our favorite watering hole, Dorrians, a mainstay of the Upper East Side.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Dorrian's, picture a sports bar that also serves as an evergreen destination for black tie after parties, and where you can count on running into Upper East Side locals and celebrities youve either grown up with or stalk lightly on Instagram. (It also has the infamous distinction of being the place where Jennifer Levin started her evening before she was murdered by Robert Chambers in 1986.)
When we waltzed into the storied bar around 8 p.m., one of the regular bartenders jokingly asked me if we were here for the Bernie event (to watch the New Hampshire caucus) and I safely assumed he was kidding. Im a lefty originally from Massachusetts and have never felt out of place at Dorrians, but its not what one might call a bastion of liberalism. Its more of the navy-blazer crowd, populated by preppies who would put "moderate" on their app dating profile so as to not scare away potential dates from either side of the spectrum.

Hmm. I've lived near Dorrian's (though I'd run into more celebrities at Joe Allen's or PJ Clarke's).

...everyone is jumping on the Bernie bandwagon...
...that's understandable, we've been doing 1% predatory capitalism for 50 years and now it's time to give it a break...
...sit back and grab a cup, it's break time for Bernie...

My guess is that at least some of any group of preppies backing Sanders probably still have large student debts, which he's promising to wipe out, no matter how large the debts are or how much money the debtor is making.
Can you say "giant carrot"?
Btw, preppies hate being called preppies.
