(4,168 posts)If people don't vote for Biden, then he's simply not the uniting figure you'd like him to be. Wishing really hard doesn't make it so.
My top choice isn't winning either. I can get over it. Can you?

(984 posts)Come on mate, even as a joke we are better than that. If you are trying to be a voice of the "the other guy" do you honestly think ANY Democratic doesn't get that treatment??! It starting to reminding me of the old "passers" in the segregation days. Moderate and the far left are the same thing to those who would say that. Don't deceive yourself the battleground is the disaffected voters and purple voters who just want a new method. The New left is the old left. Labor, over owners. People, over bureaucrats. Progress, over status quo.

(22,144 posts)My point is only that something happened at this same time in the cycle and Hillarys lead in the polls evaporated. Its too soon to count on any polls, but living here in one of the reddest areas of PA (and a poll worker since 2007), this is going to be an ugly election. They fly Confederate flags here and signs the size of small billboards all for Trump. If the woods and solitude werent so beautiful, I would move.

(790 posts)how such beautiful places can still have such ugliness from people. Confederate flags and Trump stickers here just blow my mind.
Hopefully the polling is more accurate this time than last.

(32,685 posts)I've got a couple of weeks to decide before I vote in Michigan. I like Warren best, but trying to figure out who has the best chance. Here in mid-Michigan a lot of folks just couldn't vote for Hillary and left it blank. Those same people told me they would have voted for BS. I'd guess he will do well here. I just don't know.
I will vote for anyone that wins the Democratic nomination with gusto. In the mean time, I sending money to groups that are working to elect Democratic Senate and House candidates.

(8,200 posts)If Sanders is our nominee he will be subjected to a scathing denunciation of his statements providing praise for brutal regimes such as that of Fidel Castro. While he applauded their utopian objectives he was silent in his condemnation of the methods of everyone of these regimes use of brutal methods to shut down any objections. These included jailing or outright murder of opponents and especially silencing of the media. Of course Trump wants Sanders as his opponent. He will be able to tear him to shreds as the supporter of vicious communistic regimes. How ironic can it get when Trump welcomes the help of a vicious Russian dictator to destroy a socialist opponent with his endorsement.

(11,605 posts)Also, there's something to be said for the fact that Bernie is drawing bigger crowds and more enthusiasm than anyone else by a long shot. I know rally size isn't always correlated to electoral success, but it can be an indicator. Obama had the biggest crowds on either side in 2008, and I think Trump did in 2016.

(42,862 posts)Even when Bernie runs on the Democratic ticket, he attacks the party. That doesnt exactly endear him to committed party members especially in todays political environment, when being a united party is key. By stating that the Democratic establishment AND the Republican establishment cant stop him, he is being extremely divisive by putting himself out as someone who is actually running against BOTH parties, and not as someone who is running FOR the party that he is supposedly running on behalf of.

(14,564 posts)lets not project the inverse if it does not work out for him onto everyone else.
99.5% of the people who have concerns about him will vote for him a heartbeat.
What we are seeing is the reality that once the Rs and their mainstream media buddies to into a SOCIALISM palooza it will destroy any support from the mushy middle that is not comfortable with the blooming dictator to either not vote or vote for the blooming dictator AND go R down ballot.
I will vote for him knowing it will be a Titanic moment ... the US slipping into the icy waters after hitting the glacier.

(22,913 posts)It's a reasonable argument to make and it makes sense for Biden to make it. In more normal times the logic behind it is very solid. These just aren't those times though. They weren't in 2016 and it's shaping up that way for 2020 also. The electoral map changes every time any variable is altered. No doubt some seats could be lost with Sanders heading our ticket that might be won with Biden heading it, but the converse can also be true. What happens to our national campaigns when fear of Trump of course remains a voter motivator, but strong enthusiasm for our candidates comes up short? Voter enthusiasm has always been a key election metric. Fear of Trump will be a motivator whoever our nominee is.

(14,574 posts)was too much for me.
Business as usual is out the door. We need substantial progress forward on healthcare, on climate change, on student debt, on reforming the tax policy so the rich pay their share for this civilization, and we need to overturn Citizens United, close a bunch of revolving doors and reform campaign finance.
For those goals, I must confess much more confidence in Bernie or Elizabeth than in Joe or Pete or Amy.

(1,159 posts)Bernie will rely on his coattails to take the Senate and to keep the House. Of course, his coattails expressly flip off the Democratic establishment and the Republican establishment, so any down ballot candidates will need to be, um, non-establishment if they want in on the Bernie carpool to D.C.
