Elizabeth Warren piles on Bloomberg at Denver rally, but avoids criticism of Sanders

U.S. senator hopes to regain ground after struggling in early Democratic contests

Elizabeth Warren and her supporters in Denver rejected the notion Sunday that she should drop out of the crowded Democratic presidential race as she electrified a crowd of thousands with her calls for “big, structural change.”

The U.S. senator from Massachusetts has placed third or fourth in each of the first three states to hold votes, including fourth in Saturday’s Nevada caucus. But she’s been buoyed by positive reaction to her methodical takedown of self-funding billionaire candidate Mike Bloomberg, a former New York City mayor, during Wednesday’s nationally televised debate over his non-disclosure agreements with female employees.

Before one supporter asked Warren a question in the Fillmore Auditorium, she referred to the moment, approvingly, as “the trash-can beating.”

“Women can be tough,” Warren responded.

Do you mean that she's trying to prop up Biden? If Bloomberg tanks and Biden benefits as you noted, then Warren's chances would seem to be even less likely.

I'm not even sure Biden is a viable threat at this point unless something unexpected happens, like Bloomberg and Steyer dropping out and endorsing him enthusiastically. Maybe not even then. I think it's stop Bernie time if she has any chance.

If Buttigieg led a full on, 'off with his head' assault on Biden, how would he do? Be flooded with grateful votes from former Biden supporters, or would they be looking to go elsewhere? So Sanders people would be in love with Warren if she gutted Bernie, and lining up to vote for her too?

Pissed off with 'moderates' willing Warren to suicide herself, because no one on their side has the taste or the talent to do the job. Pathetic.

Warren will benefit when Bloomberg steps up and takes Sanders apart. No - Sanders supporters won't be flocking to Mike or Joe. That's how it works.

Warren's only path to the nomination is to stop Sanders. That's it. Piling solely on Bloomberg, whom it would seem she's already fatally wounded, while mostly ignoring Sanders makes no sense. At this point, she needs to give people a reason not to vote for Sanders or it's over for her. That's in contrast to giving people reasons to vote *for* her, because while I personally believe that should have worked and worked well (personally, I have no clue why anyone would pick Sanders over Warren), it's clearly not.

Waiting on Bloomberg to knock Sanders out seems just as silly as the assertion that the moderates are waiting for her to do it. I don't think either of them is realistic. If they want to get back in the race, they need to take responsibility for doing so, not sit around waiting for someone else's dominoes to fall.

who went from supporting Sanders to supporting Warren.

Sanders camp admits anti-Warren script was deployed in multiple early states

Sanders initially attributed the talking points to rogue staffers, and supporters launched an online campaign to convince people the document was fake.

https://time.com/5681261/working-families-party-harassment/

His "both sides are doing this, and I don't support any harassment in general" was a non-admonishment of that harassment.

#WarrenIsASnake is a hashtag his supporters use.

He is the only candidate that has felt a need to remind his supporters, at the beginning of his campaign, to be "respectful" of those who disagree. Clearly many didn't view it as a serious request.

I think he's aware that his supporters will attack whoever disagrees with him. He himself has a history of referring to anyone who does disagree with him in any way as wrong at best, and corrupt at worst, and I think that he attracts - and in some ways emboldens - many with a similar dualistic point of view.

His campaign staffing choices certainly express this POV:

She also got a nice bump in CBS/YouGov today. She has challenges of course but she isn’t going to surmount them by getting out of her comfort zone and prioritizing attacks on Bernie over Bloomberg. That wouldn’t be the right move in SC anyway where going after Mr. Stop-and-Frisk makes a helluva lot more sense than targeting Bernie.
