Klobuchar rallies the middle with message of unity in Aurora

On the evening after a Democratic primary debate in which Amy Klobuchar and political rival Pete Buttigieg exchanged pointed barbs — “are you trying to say that I’m dumb,” she asked him at one point — Klobuchar bounded into the cavernous hangar area of the Stanley Marketplace in Aurora and got right to it.

“As you know, we had a debate last night and I just thought it would be nice to come to a place where, you know, everybody knows your name and people are nice to you,” she said, grinning.

Cheers turned to laughter. Packed shoulder-to-shoulder and wall-to-wall were hundreds of moderate Democrats, committed Klobuchar fans, undecideds and triangulating progressives who said they want only one thing: President Donald Trump’s defeat. And if that means choosing a candidate who might appeal to more conservative friends and relatives because there is no way in hell Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren will, then, voter after voter said, so be it.

“My heart is with Elizabeth Warren and it always has been, but my mind says she’s a little too left for electability,” Deborah Blake said, in what would be a common refrain from self-described lefties throughout the evening.

1. She doesn't have the temperament

She's great in town halls and events with supporters but what I've seen during debates is she doesn't have the temperament to take criticism or defend her votes and positions on issues. She looked childish during the last debate.

Seattle Times: For Washington state, U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is the best choice to advance to the general election in the crucial effort to unseat President Donald Trump. She is an effective third-term senator with a strong track record of leading initiatives whether her party was in power or not, working across the aisle when it served her state and the nation. The Minnesotan is no demagogue, titillating voters with political impossibilities like Medicare for All. Rather, Klobuchar is a pragmatic and authentic progressive who wants to make actual progress on many issues especially important to Washington, such as immigration, climate change and trade.

San Francisco Chronicle: Amy Klobuchar repeatedly has shown under fire in the debates and town halls that she is a listener with a wickedly quick sense of humor that can make her point effectively and with civility. She has the skills to unite the Democratic Party after this nomination fight — no small task — and, if elected president, restore the integrity, discipline and dignity that the office deserves. She gets our endorsement in the March 3 primary.

Personally I agree, though, her last debate wasn't as good as the previous.

4. She melted down from the pressure in the last debate

She couldn’t handle the pressure from Buttigieg. I don’t know how she would survive Trump.

5. After walking off the stage since, she has not been seen much (by me at least).

I had to look up what she's been up to, just as this rally info was posted. Not nearly the buzz she had after NH.

A good candidate looking for someone other than Biden, but little real support.

8. Having differences is a good thing

It's good to have a representation and to balance our differences so I'm glad others have a different opinion than mine. She doesn't strike me as a good listener.

She would do good in the trenches not in the WH. Her performance this past week made her look petty.

9. Agree. She often points to her streak of wins & experience, and she did seem petty cause

she did not want to admit a mistake (not just forgot, but didn't know) on her part, and was having her record challenged.
