Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumObama needs to step in at this point, endorse a mainstream candidate
and warn about Bernie. I appreciate Obama wanting to let the process play out, but the Sanders tweet tonight should be the last straw. We shouldn't just walk arm-in-arm with Bernie off this cliff without at least warning the public about where we are headed. Obama's the only guy I can think of with the credibility to make a lot of people listen to that warning.

(115,735 posts)I'd love to see him endorse pretty much anyone who isn't Bernie. The Sandernistas would get their pure and righteous undies in a bunch, but somebody has to stop this disaster.

(804 posts)Someone else mentioned that all 4 former Presidents should have a news conference about this Russian interference. I too, wish Obama would endorse a candidate. This is not a normal election. Like Sally Yates tweeted about the ringing red alarm bells, something has to change the trajectory of this race. Otherwise, Trump and Putin win.

(115,735 posts)The party is already being fractured by Bernie's attacks on the Democratic "establishment," of which Obama is the most prominent member, with Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi close second and third. And then there are Adam Schiff and the other Democrats who impeached Trump - and Bernie and his hired trolls are implicitly trashing those people. The "establishment." The only people who actually tried to do something about Trump besides just shooting off their mouths.

(14,974 posts)Damned if he does endorse Biden (nepotism, undue influence, putting his thumb on the scale, cynically paying back favors, etc), damned if he doesn't (this cluster-f**k we've got going on today, plus *controversy* *disloyalty* *betrayal* oh my!)
Again only my opinion, and a rather ignorant one at that b/c I've never spoken to any of these people myself, but I do not think Biden is the candidate who is most like Obama in fundamental characteristics -- I think Warren is the closest to Obama in temperament, intellect, policy instincts. I would not be bothered if Obama endorsed either Biden or Warren, but lord almighty the media would soil themselves if Obama came out with an endorsement.

(945 posts)Obama is a former President and one of the most cherished Democrats in the country. He needs to stay out until the party needs to unify around a nominee. We, the voters, have to work towards making sure that a person who constantly bashes democrats is not the nominee
