Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumHere's the Thing: If Joe Biden Openly Offered "Free Hugs" after His Appearances,
the line for them would be out the door. I guarantee it.
So, maybe he should do just that a couple of times early in the campaign. That might replace the angst with some humor.
Just saying...

(146,317 posts)I wasn't seriously suggesting that, anyhow. My point remains, however. The number of people who would line up for a hug from Joe Biden would be enormous. The number of people complaining about his interactions will remain tiny.
This is an election. The more voters who like him and vote for him, the better he will do. And Joe Biden is a very likable sort of guy in the minds of many, many voters.
The goal is to win voters and their votes. Some people try to do that by attacking their opponents, or the opponents of people they support. The winner of the nomination won't do that, but will work to gain people's support through campaigning on real issues that affect people.
For every person who says, "Well, I'm not going to vote for Biden because of his behavior with regard to physical contact," there will 20 who say, "I like Joe Biden. He can hug me anytime he likes."
This is not a disqualifying issue in any way. It will also not help the candidates supported by those who have brought it forward.
Joe Biden has said he's going to try to be more careful. Now, it's time for him to go and campaign for the nomination, and leave that behind for his opponents and their supporters to wonder about.
There won't be any "free hugs" lines, except imaginary ones in the minds of those who attend his events. But, if there were, the line would, as I said, be out the door for those hugs.

(82,383 posts)You are proving a point. That they really really want to have something to take offense at. Please draw the line somewhere.
I bet there are at least some who are even more offended due to the tape he made. Lets not feed into right wing stereotypes.

(146,317 posts)He's been in politics for a very, very long time, and has seen just about everything. He'll still be handing out hugs, but he'll probably say to people he hugs, "OK if I hug you?" Almost everyone will say, "Sure!"
That's the actual reality of all this.
