Democratic Primaries

Amy K on now.
MAJOR test for me is ability to SPEAK extemporaneously, get crowds' attention, and respond to difficult issues.
Amy DOES it.

(8,144 posts)do. Her voice has a bright sound, and she conveys confidence, is sharp and unfaltering in her replies. She is a persuasive speaker, but honestly, that is not an indication of an ability to handle
all the duties of the presidency, and though she is an effective communicator, she doesnt resonate
emotionally much of the time. Well, I should amend that in view of another response. So far, to me, she has been a strong debater, but not especially compelling do as to touch me emotionally.
Certainly acquitted herself well with psycho punk Kavanaugh. Good debater. Something the president is not often called upon to do.

herding cats
(19,568 posts)My only suggestion to her would be to relax and be more empathetic with the people. Her message is excellent. She just needs to trust herself a tiny bit more and connect more on an emotional level. I know, there's a school of thought that's too dangerous for a woman to do. I disagree.
Be deeply engaged with the person your addressing, individually and personally. Listen to them, respond candidly and personally to their perspective. We don't have a current candidate that can do that like Obama did, but she's so close.
My only complaint with our current field is they tend to be too 'on their message' which I think holds them back from showing their true potential. That goes for every single one of them right now. I get how high the stakes are, but they're vying for the votes of people who are... just people. There's a time to interact on your merits via your policy, and on your ability to show empathy and compassion to all we people dealing with our daily struggles.
For what it's worth, I'm waiting until Thursday to vote (early voting for Super Tuesday after the next debate), and I'm open to several candidates still.

question everything
(47,535 posts)Yes, she was quick on her feet. By now I am familiar with all the anecdotes but she brought some new insights.
And, yes, how she worked with McCain and even Graham. Did not get exactly the story about a statue that was moved in Estonia, will have to find about it.
Liked her response about knowing the name of the Mexican president: this is not a game of Jeopardy! She had a long day in the Senate and that question was presented at 2:00 am.
