It's depressing as hell.

If I were to vote in a presidential

The rigors of a national campaign will eventually prove to be too strenuous for a man of his age and in his health. He'll be forced to leave the race. I give it another month, tops.

The political conversation around "ageism" is bound by myths.

When we get old, we slowly lose capacity-- slowly if we're lucky. That's just a fact of nature.

The Democratic primary field is virtually saturated with people in their 70s, and that, IMO, is too old to take a job that's the most demanding on earth. And I'm in my seventies, and I'm perhaps more fit than 98% of people my age. I know that younger people have more energy and stamina as a natural condition that has nothing to do with prejudice or bias. It's just a fact of nature that we can't fake. We all die. Remember Dylan's line: He not busy being born is busy dying.

while others demanded that Bernie, the current frontrunner, should drop out... no, that's the former frontrunner who showed he wasnt inevitable, as he hasn't, and won't, win a single state.

... at Biden's debate performances. His projection of overweening confidence and his bragging, combined with his fragmented sentences and "stream of consciousness" ramblings were enough to send me looking for a younger voice. He seemed too eager to impose dominance over his competitors and implied that all of them are to be summarily dismissed in favor of his candidacy. I don't want another "stream of consciousness" rambler in charge of anything. We have that in Dictator Donnie right now. I'm not intending to be insulting or demeaning to you, Turin, or anyone else. If Biden gets the nomination, I'll vote for him in a heartbeat. But Biden presents complications that I hope we don't have to face.

BTW, I saw Dweezil Zappa and his "Hot Rats Orchestra" last week in Portland. It was a great show with outstanding musicians, including Mr. Zappa. I'd see them again.

give a greater priority to a perceived style over measurable and objective substance.

Dismaying? Certainly. Surprising? No... not really. We're a shallow, consumer culture which values pretty packaging over actual content.
