FWIW my friends here in Europe find it really odd that Americans seem to prefer old Presidents. PMs in Europe are usually in their 30s and 40s, maybe unity coalition elder statesmen in their 50s. But it's considered a younger politician's job. I think there's something to that.

(8,059 posts)President here is very powerful, which seems to lend itself to older and more accomplished people. I'm just guessing this as a reason. JFK and Obama and Bill Clinton pushed the envelope of "young" in their 40's.

(52,166 posts)79-81 and then 83 - 92. He was hardly just some 40 year old. Also Kennedy was not much younger than Nixon. Kennedy was born in 17 while Nixon was born in 13.

I was watching a music concert that sanders had on YouTube and in the side box you see the donations coming in with comments and I was very surprised to see comments like We love our elders, Wise old one thank you for leading us etc.
Uncle Joe Uncle Bernie stuff like that I dont think its bad thing to be old and some younger may not be uncomfortable with it either looking more for direction from them
I not sure if its still the case but when Pete started out he was trending more with voters much older than himself not people his own age
Grumpy old trump won how old was Clinton ? Ill just say not young
Of course bush the son and Obama were not seniors so not a trend in US either way really imo
