a very crucial part of the assessment many of us are now beginning. Important, too, is the past history of a candidate---is there a large unacceptable skeleton in their closet that the Trumpies can exploit? Have their positions been consistent over the years or have they evolved? While no one factor may be a "deal breaker", some are more important than others to many of us.

I have a final hurdle that a candidate must get over before they can earn my primary vote. It is entirely subjective and, therefore, likely to be scoffed at by some of the "political scientists" among us. It is simply this: do I think they are a "good person".

I don't expect perfection or ideological "purity", but are they essentially honest and forthright? Are they kind? Can they truly empathize with the less fortunate among us? Do they understand that diversity is an asset, not a hindrance?

We all have our own ways of judging people, but however we go about it, let's give some thought to "Is this a good person?"
