Related: About this forumHas anyone noticed that the top 2 candidates are potentially the oldest and youngest presidents ever
Sanders is 78, 5 years older than Trump.

(32,017 posts)I would only note that Democrats win when they run young people for President (JFK, Carter, Clinton, Obama). This has been the trend for the past 60 years. Mayor Pete is the only candidate running that fits the bill.

(81,870 posts)Sanders has loyal followers and fairly solid message. But people don't vote only on message. Buttigieg is a much more attractive candidate in a head to head match up. Coincidentally, Buttigieg also contrasts really well against Trump.

(32,017 posts)We live in interesting times, but my gut tells me that Mayor Pete can get us to the place that we want to be.
Hope you are well.

I think we have a small number of candidates left that are actually electable. At this point it is Buttigieg, then Bloomberg, Klobuchar, and maybe Biden.
Thanks. You too

(32,017 posts)Anybody who's willing to spend up to $50+ billion to defeat Donald Trump is a friend of mine, and I am only slightly ashamed to admit that.

(3,649 posts)...is that Sanders' support is with young people, and Buttigieg's support is with older people. Go figure.

(81,870 posts)It's weird. I think it has to do with idealism. Sanders is more idealistic. Buttigieg is more practical.

(9,535 posts)Buttigieg has youth and excitment to fill that bill; not any national experience yet but VP could be his training ground should Sanders age and health ever incapacitate him, and Pete could step in in 4 years to run for president then.
I suspect he's more apt to pick someone like Warren or a person of color, but I could be wrong.
