Republicans urged to cause 'chaos,' vote in SC Democratic presidential primary

When voters cast their ballots on Feb. 29 in the South Carolina Democratic Presidential Primary, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders may find himself getting votes from Republican activists.

In an effort to disrupt the Democratic nominating contest — and push state leaders to close political primaries, which would limit those contests only to voters who register by party — some Upstate GOP activists are encouraging Republicans to participate in the First in the South Democratic Primary and vote for Sanders, a self-described Democratic Socialist.

The plan was first reported by the (Charleston) Post and Courier. But on Wednesday, another effort called “Operation Chaos 2020” emerged, too. That effort echoes one pushed by conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh in 2008 when he encouraged Republican voters to vote for Hillary Clinton to prolong the Democratic primary race against Barack Obama.

{snip}

“We want to be able to have a say in giving Donald Trump that opportunity in November to face Bernie in the debate, give a clear look to American voters, here’s your capitalist success story and here’s your socialist,” said Karen Martin, who is the organizer of the Spartanburg Tea Party.

At this point in the race, former Vice President Joe Biden is favored to win South Carolina’s Democratic presidential primary and considered to be the strongest candidate to go up against Trump in November, according to polls. Biden has boasted himself as being able to help down ballot candidates.

They should be very careful about what they wish for. With Sanders leading in the national polls, they may be hastening their political demise.

The narrative on the right is that the DNC won't let Sanders win.

They intend to make that costly.

Capitalist success story? What? We don't even get to see the tax returns of this success story who bankrupted a casino, etc., and will obviously lie, cheat and steal, bold-faced, in public and even in an oath-bound, high office. I see no proof of a success story at all unless you define success as something like the rise of a boss in a criminal syndicate, which really means a crime story.

What is the success story? The wealthy got more and pay less? The booming economy that only booms for those whom it is now structured to boom for as along as possible even if that means propping up a house of cards? That is, while the rest of us are soaking in the oil of struggle in vast fields of sardine cans left to rot in the Sun as if, we don't do boom right?

I just had to pick that one out, but as far as the dirty deals and cyber salvos go, I hope everyone is prepared and bracing for a new kind of war that will be fought viciously and destructively, like any war. One if by media, two if online, our Cyber-Revere might shout as a warning on a virtual horse avatar. I think this one is going to be unprecedented simply because it is about a final battle for democracy as the armies of tyranny create an Amerigeddon in order to preserve what the dying, irrelevant GOP now stands for: itself and wresting power from the people for good.

Well, we are getting a real taste of the upcoming virtual war that will be fought on all fronts this time around.

I use the term war because all the kinds of dirty tactics being prepared in order to weaponize the media--and the Internet specifically--are going to create quite a demonstration of how actual war can translate on a digital battlefield that can ransack our internal village of sensibility and destroy the neutral nature of truth by boiling it in frothing, rabid nationalism and fealty to authoritarianism.

We are going to have to pay heed and remain vigilant if we plan to prevail in this epic confrontation. Maybe DU can be a haven for that by way of pointing out the nature and tactics to come while also putting more emphasis on debunking propaganda and agitprop in order to sort out facts from fictions and keep our lines of communication clear and fail-safe. More cooperation is in order this time.
